So, I spotted this on eBay about a week ago:
clicky
I couldn't get it out of my head so yesterday afternoon I rang my existing insurance people to find out how much it would cost to move my policy from my 125 MZ to the 250 MZ in the advert.
£20 they said, plus a £20 admin fee. "woah" I said. That would make it £100 cheaper than taking out an initial policy on a 250cc (based on a quote I'd had from a different insurer).
So, I began thinking of ways of transporting the untax'd and unmot'd bike 200 miles to Hartlepool. At which point I remembered my dad's 1978 MZ that he has residing in a garage.
Didn't know alot about it, other than he and my mum went to Poland on it in 1994 and its been sat in a garage for a long while.
So, today I went to our "maison du tat" and dug it out.
First up though, I had to reach it...climbing all over my Skoda spares. I found this grille. Now, anyone who knows Skoda grilles will know they have a tendency to crack where they screw onto the car so finding one that isn't broke is quite an achievement. Guess what - this one is perfect. No snaps or cracks anywhere.
Unfortunately last weekend when moving some stuff I stood on it and have put a great big crack in it:
So my question is; is that repairable? If so, how?
Now, a quick tour of what else I have stashed away...
Full set of cream door cards for a Rapid and two Rapid doors that I picked up last weekend:
Check the doors though:
I'm going to clean them up and then put em on my car!
Then there is my "glass stash"
(^ in that pile there is 2x Rapid windscreens, 2x Rapid rear windows, 2x Rapid side windows, 2x Rapid door windows, 1x Estelle back window, 1x Estelle windscreen!)
Anyway, onto the bike...first obstical....a complete 136 engine...
And, what do we have here?
The bike!
Further inspection reveals...
HA: the tax ran out in 96!
So, pleased with what I'd found I came home and rang my current insurance company [Bennetts]. They insure me on the 125 through AXA and I've recently re-newed my policy with them.
Anyway, feed them the details on the 78 MZ 250 and they come back with "Sorry, we can't insure you on that bike because it is older than 25 years old."
What? For real? Grr.
Then they put me through to two other companies who refuse me because of my postcode/age!
So, to insure this here 250, it looks like I am going to have to cancel my current policy incurring a £30 cancellation fee and take out another policy with www.e-bike.com for £355.
Total cost=
206 [current policy] - 30 [cancellation fee] = £176
355 [new policy] - 176 = £179
So. You know...
Anyway, next step is to get the bike out of the "maison du tat" and back to "maison du HOME" and get working on it.
Anyway, just thought I'd share
