EXTERIOR
The luxury top of the range for comfort Mk3 Escort Ghia is finished in Ford Sunburst Red (code P1). The stunning paint finish really does entice your attention with its deep glossy and vibrant shine. This bright, well preserved example is structurally excellent and all the panels are wonderfully straight with uniform gaps. Evidence of remedial repairs and a tiny ding to the driver’s door take nothing away from the impressive appeal of this beautiful car. The extensive and factory original brightwork to the windows, belt line and lights is remarkably well preserved. Even the supplying dealer number plates, tax disc holder and rear screen sticker remain with the car! A once common sight, this lovely Ford Escort is sure to stir up nostalgia.
INTERIOR
Finish in factory original ‘Ghia’ spec Durham and Crushed Velour trim in Peat colour scheme (code C6), the pristine seats and condition of the materials is fully commensurate with such a low mileage and cherished example. The matching door cards with wood inserts are spotless and the colour keyed cut pile carpets have defied the years remarkably. All switchgear is functional and intact, and the soft finish dashboard has only two faint hair line cracks to the instrument binnacle. The original trimmed parcel shelf is intact, straight and complete with the correct cord hangers. Even the original fit Ford P21 push button radio cassette remains fitted and operational! This beautifully well preserved interior is exactly as Ford intended, a real delight for the enthusiast.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The time proven transverse mounted 1600 OHC engine with single variable-venturi carburettor develops 79bhp, achieving a top speed of 104mph and 0-60 in 11.7 seconds. The engine is whisper quiet and smooth, owing in no doubt to a lifetime of documented fastidious care and maintenance. The standard specification automatic choke and electronic ignition are both present and correct, and operate perfectly. The five speed synchromesh gearbox with remote shift is light and exact, a joy to use.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five refurbished 5” x 13” styled road wheels with spotless bright finish wheel centres and rim embellishers are shod in matching 155/80 R13 tyres with masses of tread remaining. The spare wheel still has the original Michelin XZX rubber. The diagonally split hydraulic circuit servo assisted brakes with ventilated 9.4” front discs and rear drums bring the car up to a steady, straight and assured halt.
