A striking Porsche 914-4 with four owners and astonishing history from new.
EQUIPMENT
Pop-up headlights, removable fiberglass roof, steel roll bar, foam-padded vinyl dashboard, central dash tachometer, safety belt warning light and buzzer, cigarette lighter, glove compartment, ashtray, heater control lever, interior light.
EXTERIOR
Utterly gorgeous, unique and very individual finished in bright Signal Orange, (code L20E), this Porsche has a luscious gleam which is a pleasure to polish and admire. All the panels are virtually mark free and offer a mirror like reflection. The lower area of the vehicle is structurally perfect with a clean factory finish black coating and the entire underside is wonderfully sound with no repairs or thick underseal. A tiny solid undulation and a small crease do not detract from the ‘wow’ factor this Porsche creates when stationary and on the move. The removable lightweight fiberglass roof is in excellent condition and fits well thanks to full rubbers and the glass is smear free. The electric pop-up lights function correctly. A wonderfully different thoroughbred.
INTERIOR
A classic Porsche design is immediately apparent with the original high back sports seats finished in immaculate black leatherette upholstery with basketweave inserts and built in headrests. Matching door cards and dark grey Schlingenware carpeting are in excellent order. Dominant, white-on-black 911-style gauges all function correctly with the large central tachometer reminding the driver of pure Porsche heritage. A few top dash cracks can be seen. Amazingly all the identification plates are intact and reveal the originality of this unmolested example. A complete factory 914 tool kit still includes the valuable Messko tyre pressure gauge in its original white vinyl pouch. Surprisingly spacious for two adults with ample luggage space front and rear this delightful Porsche offers a wonderful lifestyle package.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The mid-engine horizontally opposed air cooled unit is fed by Bosch electronic injection and produces an impressive 76bhp at 4900rpm. A top speed of 106mph and 0-60mph in 12 seconds is quoted with a combined fuel consumption of 34mpg. An overwhelming history file, excellent parts availability and simple mechanics will please owners. The five-speed gearbox is operated via a single dry plate clutch and is a dog-leg configuration which will require familiarisation to the operating pattern.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Still sporting the standard 4.5 x 15 steel wheels with the incredibly rare, later chrome hubcaps, identical to Volkswagen pieces without the embossed VW logo. The tyres are new except for the spare which has a date coded spare wheel with the original Michelin XZX-15 tyre. An advanced dual circuit hydraulic brake system with disc brakes on all four wheels performs well.
HISTORY FILE
A phenomenal, completely documented history accompanies this 914. Built in April 1972 and bought by the first of just four owners, Eric Storm, on the 21st June 1972 for the stately sum of $4,647.33. His name plaque is still attached in the boot area and he part exchanged a Porsche 912. Custodian for the next 19 years and covering a detailed 60,818 miles before the second gentleman owner parted with $5,014 in August 1991. Adding a further 22,000 miles until the third and final southern American owner, a lady in 2006 purchased the car covering 9,500 miles in three years. Then sold by Californiaclassix to a UK collector with a passion for original, low owner, low mileage classic Porsches. With some 125 chronologically filed invoices the mileage at 95,258 is assured.
Supplied with all the factory handbooks, manuals, leaflets, spare keys and brochures. This model represents a fantastic opportunity into classic air cooled Porsche ownership and one for the appreciative car enthusiast
MOT until June 2015, tax exempt, HPI Clear and Approved Used Car Check
