Hi all,
Can anyone recommend a good place to insure a 2001 clk 55 amg.
The car is a second car, i can limited the mileage to get it down. Mature owner.
I appreciate its not strictly retro as of yet, but surly a future classic. I know theres a few similar cars on here, big v8s, so thought i would ask.
Thank you for any help.

I assume too at 13 years old it's young to put on a classic policy so reckon you are probably going to insure the same as any other car and restricting mileage won't make much difference. Personally I am early retired to don't use any of my vehicles for commuting and that reduced premium a little. You will need full no claims available to set against the policy, clean licence, no accidents within 3 years, parking in garage, low risk area, low risk employment etc to get the best quote. Maybe play with comparisons sites to see what sort of lowest quote you can get for an hypothetical status (retired teacher with full no claims living in rural area with always parking in garage) to see the "base line" lowest. Don't use your real name, email, phone no. etc ! Then you will have something to compare to your real status and see what is pushing your quotes up from the lowest base line. Have you tried the insurer of your main everyday vehicle to see if possible to add it to your policy ?
Good luck with search.

It took me months and a fist full of threatening letters to get the money back.

Did you tick the continuing payment authorisation, and did you buy on line or on the phone? If you did not tick the box then Direct Debit guarantee says bank must refund ANY unauthorised payment immediately in full. If it was an auto renewal or other you have a 14 day 'cooling off' period, from when you receive the renewal documentation by law to cancel for a full refund, unless you have made a claim. Get a full refund from the bank.

Try Brentacre, always been great for me on modifieds, classics, performance cars, whatever, and I live in a car crime hotspot, and I'm 26. You get 15% discount for being on RR too.

I've had issues with Fluz also. They cancelled a classic policy I took out on an XJ40 because I hadn't 'returned' a form which they never sent to me in the first place. Fortunately I had opted to pay in installments and cancelled the Direct Debit as soon as I received the cancellation notice. They then invoiced me for over £200 in administration and cancellation fees (the policy was only about £180 pa). When I refused to pay it, they passed it on to a debt collection company. I ignored them and after about 6 months, they got the message that they weren't going to get paid! I was recently told by a telephonist at Peter James that they can put anything on a classic policy if it's over 10 years old. They offered it to me on my recently aquired 2000 E320cdi wagon, but I needed a higher mileage allowance than they could provide. Could be worth a try for you tho

Legislation is quite clear....the bank MUST refund the full amount 'on demand' to your account. Then Flux has to get the money out of you. As i said earlier if you contacted Flux within 14 days they LEGALLY have to refund the full amount as long as you have not made a claim (distance selling regulations) You need to be sure you did not give authority for a continuing yearly debit. There does not need to be any forms involved as this is primary legislation, and they cant introduce any 'terms' of their own that prejudices your rights.

Just re read your quote...if you have the refund tell Flux to F*"K off, Whist you are at it let them know that as you think you are in the right you will issue a summons at the small claims court for your expenses, time and damages for the stress this has caused...see what they say then!
BTW of they are asking for £70 as the cost of cancellation, they can, at worst, only charge you a 'resonable' amount (if over 14 days). Ask them to send you a full breakdown of how they arrive at the figure of £70 before you will consider payment.
