yeah, all those under priced Startlets, AE86s, Celicas, etc. LOL. Well, it's true in the case of 5dr ones, speaking from experience I bought it cheaply (£300) with new MoT, and struggled to find a home for it. Go for anything outside the drift scene and I'd say they are still undervalued - despite the J-love shown here, there's still not that many people buying the odd stuff.

Yes, I always wanted a 90's style Maxi. chrome rimz, black windows and timmy mallet pink, rake, and subtle bits and pieces.... There used to be one 'round here - shaved handles, blacked-out windows, chrome "Interceptor" rims, topped off with a nice coat of black paint. Lovely! Seriously, it did look good, the work had been done nicely. If anyone local would be interested, I think I know where it is...

I think J stuff is on the cusp of having its big hour, Datsuns are already on the increase and RWD stuff is already fetching over the odds money.
Beetles seem to have come down a lot, when I think about what a grand gets you now compared to the pile of wibblepoo a grand got you in the early `90s.
A lot of prewar/ only just postwar stuff might decline in value as there are less people that remember them - I keep thinking about getting a Pilot but whenever I think about that the Mk1 Granada comes steaming in playing it`s nostalgia card.
Classics alwyas seemed to worth a fortune in the `80s, whereas now its like 3 for a pound, but maybe classics are more commonplace now so people can be choosier - A lot more cars on the road in 1979 than in 1955 and much more variety, hence more scope for supply exceeding demand and for certain models to be forgotten about or overlooked - if no-ones looking for something it wont sell and eventually find its way onto ebay where it will sit there at 99p.
The one thing I cant get my head around is why FD Victors only seem to be worth a third of equivalent MK 3 Cortinas, just as stylish, probably 6 and two threes driving wise, just as rare, just as "seventies", whats going on?

FD Victor is a 60s car. Came out '67 and lasted until Feb '72. Just as the Mk3 was in its second year!
The Cortina does however drive like a modern car (or at least a 70s/80s one) whereas the Victor - despite having 4 linked rear, coil and wishbone front, radials, SOHC engine, all synchro trans, well, it just feels older and more spindly.
I've had nearly 20 FDs and 4 Mk3s and if I were looking for a car to drive as a stocker it would be a 2.0 Cortina every time.
But thats not the reason Cortinas are worth more than Victors.

So what is the reason then? They are seriously good looking cars, and I`d have thought looks would be the thing that people are going for with the Mk3 Cortina. And how does the FE Victor stack up, they don't seem to be worth a light either.

Ford = £££££. Vauxhall not. Simple as that. FE is a much more modern car to drive than the FD. Considering they share a lot of the same layout and the same engines and boxes they are totally different to drive. Less "character" but better for the daily hack. Kinda like a Carlton or something to drive. Nice. slightly more comfy than a Cortina but not as wallowy as a Granada. Excellent cars. Criminally overlooked.

Justys are cheap `cos no-one knows what the hell they are, no-ones looking for them and they take ages to sell. I have done ok with one or two in the past by playing the waiting game, great little cars to drive, 1.3 goes like f*ck as theres no weight to it, really well made lille things, parts readily available and not as dear as you might expect. I`m talking about the old boxy ones, by the way, I know nothing about the later Swift - clone version.
FE Victor now on my wish list.

Land Rover 'series' stuff.
Compared to 10 year ago they are dirt cheap now. I remember when one of by school buds paid £950 for a series 3 with no T or T and in need of surgery. And that was a 'cheap' one.
Now you can pick up a tax exempt series with a full ticket for £500-£700 (or less, as I did!) There's always a good selection on eBay, and only so many masochistic buyers out there I suppose. Plus anyone wanting to do proper mudding will just go and buy a £250 range rover.

Perhaps ebay, now that everyone in the world has an account, has shown up the true rarity of things - maybe your mate with the landy wouldnt have acted so quick if he`d have known just how many were still out there, whereas the aforementioned Chrysler 180/holy grail might previously been worth five pence but would now be the epicentre of a vicious bidding war between myself and someone like xbollox that would result in one of us being used as a dress - up doll by the HSBC for the next fifty years!

I saw a LWB series 3 tax and MOT going for £350 and looked in good nic. Lightweights are the exception to the rule

cadillacs from after the 'oink caddy' era - ie 1970.
and most american stuff TBH
and anything J and FWD, especially corolla hatches (ae92?) and also datsun/nissan laurel/300/cedric...
theres a lot of stuff that is worth exactly what they are making, like very cheap triumphs. except dollys, which should be 15k+ lol.
