	How did this happen? I took the Sapporo to work yesterday morning and everything was running fine, I then drove to the local supermarket at lunch time and the car started missing and running rough under load intermitantly, I then came to drive home last night and I could hardly get the car to run at anything over idle, this wasn't too much of a problem as it was stop start traffic all the way home. Now it was a nice easy fix as it was obviously a coil issue so I swapped the coil for a spare and everything returned to normal, Result! Well almost everything as there was still a bit of a missfire, I quickly traced the missfire to no'3 cylinder and when I removed the spark plug I found that the electrode gap had completly closed up! How the hell had that happened? it hadn't come into contact with anything and there was no sign of damage, nobody had been near the car to be playing "silly bug*ers" and all the others were in the same condition as when I fitted them! How bizzare!

	just happens sometimes, could have got hot at the base of the electrode and then bent, engines tend to be under a fair bit of pressure when running with all the air and fuel in there getting squeezed and blown up, not the easiest place to survive. closed up plugs are just one of those things that happen, I wouldnt worry about it tbh, aslong as nothing crushed it up there! if it does it again then i'd get worried, but fit up another plug to be safe, don't try setting the gap on that one again, don't want mr metallurgy playing his trick of fatigue on your ass and dropping an electrode into the works! in the words of mike d she'll be reet, give it fook

	Put 4 new NGKs in the 850 few weeks ago, ran perfect, turned off the car, started it a week later and it would only run on 3, if I took the lead off plug 2 and held it loosely against the plug it ran on 4, pushed the lead back on it ran on 3 cylinders again . Stuck an old plug back in and no problems since. I ran the car with the plug out but connected to the lead and the spark was jumping from the centre of the plug to where the electrode curved, not the tip.

	maybe try replacing the leads, spark plugs spark differently when they're under pressure, might be a sign of a knackered lead? maybe try swapping a lead off another cylinder with the same plug and see if the spark is the same. i've had leads that look fine on inspection but are in fact utter shat. took me ages to track it down on my old mr2. is the dizzy cap in good nick? could try a new cap as it might be giving a weak spark on one cylinder. i hate electrical gremlins in ignition systems. the parts are cheap but its almost always the last thing you replace. law of sod and all that.

	cheers, The combustion process (or lack of) was the only explaination I could think off as well, but it's just something I've not experianced in 15 years of tinkering (+ working as a tech on moden stuff) I'll go with the new plug option as well, small price to pay for peace of mind
