I've always had ideas for building things, whether it be potato launchers or ride on mowers with bike engines, but they never get past the idea stage!
Last year my mate bought a cheap engine kit for his pushbike, ever so simple and does a good 25mph! And I've been wanting something to fiddle with too, and it just so happens I had my old trike stored round my nans house, so the fact I had a starting point without having to source a base gave me a good excuse to do it!
So this morning I popped round, quite handy as she only lives around the corner, and threw it in the back. Stripped interiors are handy!
First job was to get the pissy little seat off, the whole thing seemed huge 10 years ago And remove the pedals as I'll be having foot rests/stunt peg style.
Probably getting ahead but wondering what colour to go for in the end, I'm thinking a matt black with white wall tyres?
As you can see it has a rear suspension set up, I'd like to incorporate it but with how low I'm running it could bottom out over bumps!
Took it off and it dropped to a nice height, almost perfect! Just wanted the frame to sit level so I chopped the frame, sat it on some flat plate I had to give me the clearance which is about 10mm! Sleeved the bottom half, welded it and cleaned it up. (Forgot to get any pictures of the sleeve)
I had some tube from my exhaust left over which just so happened to be the same size as the frame, so cut a piece and dropped it over the sleeve, popped the front half of the trike back on and welded it/cleaned it up.
Ground clearance:
And that's where I got to today, next job is to repeat the same process towards the back to lengthen the whole thing as I sit with my knees near my ears at the minute!
After I've got the length sorted I'll be looking at getting the rear end made up to suit the engine, I'll be using a GX160 Honda engine, simple to install by what I've seen, and it's not designed to be a rocket ship so I don't need anything silly fast!
