Yay or Nay? Particularly thinking about the SE6A models. Having a look at one tomorrow that I've been offered cheap by a mate of a mate, thinking that I might buy it and do the work needed with my old man just to help keep him occupied over the summer. Doesn't seem to be many modified ones out there. Anybody any experiences/points to share/pics of nice ones?

Well, I'm rebuilding one, and I'm biased, but YAY! There are a few other Scimitarweb.co.uk peeps here on Retro-Rides too. The older SE5a is arguably the more sought-after. If the SE6a is your thing, great, 'cos sometimes they're a bit overlooked. The mechanicals are robust and easy to work on. Focus your inspection on chassis condition (outriggers and side-rails especially), bodywork (large areas of crazed gel-coat can be hard work to repair), and if the interior trim as all intact, you could be onto a winner. I really liked this SE6-series car from the NEC Classic Car Show this year. Rover V8 transplant beautifully installed and a really brave paint colour which worked IMO. I have a not particularly tidy SE5 and I love it! Best purchase I ever made! Loads of potential too. I'm going to leave mine looking as is from the outside but with a period motorsport feel to the inside, refurbished mechanics and a modern engine/gearbox transplant. Either Jag S-Type 3.0ltr all alloy V6 or Volvo T5 turbo 5-pot.

(biased) I think they're definetly worth a look - cheap, pretty good looking, cheap parts, very simple to work on and easy to modify. There are quite a few modified Scims, just have a little look as this page for a few examples www.sporting-reliants.com/ModifiedMotors.htmThe main reason I got my first one was they are so cheap (I was 14 at the time) and since then I've bought 2 more because they're so good
