I know I know, boring modern talk. I'd ask on another forum but this place is always the best for genuine responses.
I'm looking to change my daily driver/commuter, and for some reason I keep getting drawn to Honda CRV's.
I've got a budget of around 3k. For about 1.5k I can get a tidy/fsh mk1 model (98-01 I think) or I can get a facelift model (02-05?) for closer to 3k.
I only do 100 miles a week, so fuel consumption isn't a massive worry. I keep reading about their great reliability, and fuel costs are only a small factor of overall costs.
Is there a major change between the pre and post facelift models? Is it worth spending the extra cash to get one?Does anyone here have one?
I probably just need some sense talked into me...

I have an 07 crv mate 2.2derv and to be honest its been great , tows well pulls very well given me no issues at all !!!!!
Served me very well but will say if you can stretch to it buy the newer model ,which I beleive is the one before my shape as like anything they evolve and later ones really do drive better
Tbh bought mine as a stopgap but its been immense so kept it ...full leather heated ,dual climate ,sat nav etc etc very comfy barge and quite economical too
Good luck anyway go for as new as you can get within your budget am sure you'll do well
Worth registering on the crv owners and checking on any common issues with the model your looking at

My lass is taking her test soon and wants a little 4x4, trying to talk her into one of these or a RAV 4, she wants a Freelander but in my experience they are utter wibblepoo...

I run the smaller HRV, the 2wd model as a daily. If the CRV is anything like as reliable as that's been for the last couple of years you'll be fine with one. My w reg car cost a few hundred on Ebay and at 139000 miles runs like new. Only work needed was some welding to the rear end of the sills for the last MoT.... caused by water, salt etc collecting behind the plastic sill covers.

Cheers guys. Knew it was worth asking on here.
I'll get myself registered to the owners club and read any posts about common problems.
I'm torn between spending twice as much for the newer model, for a few more luxuries, when I could save 1.5k and buy a really tidy pre facelift?
For my budget I'll be getting the 2.0l petrol. Is this the same engine in both models?
Thanks again

Bought the missus a 02 CRV a few months ago. She'd only recently passed her test (if you can call it that here) and she loves it.
Easy to drive - auto - nippy and not too shabby on fuel. Mind, it has broken down once (sensor) whereas my 17 year old, totally slagged off, unreliable Range Rover soldiers on!

Another quick question guys,
I'm viewing a 2000 plate one this week. I know the tax rules changed to emissions based in 2001, but did anything else?
Am I better off buying a pre or post 01 model?
Thanks again
