A spectacular Ford Capri 2.8 Injection Special detailed to original specification.
EQUIPMENT
Remote control driver’s door mirror, body-coloured grille, lamp bezels body-coloured, power assisted steering, front and rear spoilers, tailgate wash/wipe, tinted glass all round, ammeter and oil pressure gauge, tachometer, quartz analogue clock, courtesy lights, perforated black headlining, front reclining Recaro seats, three-spoke leather covered steering wheel, tilting/sliding steel sunroof, boot light, instrument brightness control.
EXTERIOR
This incredible example is beautifully finished in Ford Black (code A9), a cost option when new. A deep mirror shine from the stunning paint finish is truly breath taking. All factory fitted panels are straight with linear gaps and the exterior trim items and decals are pristine to firmly cement the fantastic appeal of this very special car. The side pinstripe has been changed to a slightly different shade from standard at the request of a previous keeper. Hard to source fitments such as the rubber spoiler and colour coded front grill are pleasingly immaculate. The rubber trim to the top of each door panel has perished with age slightly and the bonnet has minor paintwork imperfections. A factory original example, exactly as Ford intended.
INTERIOR
The interior of this 2.8 Injection Special evokes a sense of true nostalgia with the supportive Recaro seats looking fantastic finished in the grey high-grade leather with ‘Strobe’ pattern fabric centre panels (code Q5). The original material to the rear bench seat is remarkably wear free and clean, and the front seats are perfect having been subject to a professional re-trim to exacting standards. The deep pile grey carpeting is spotless and the black perforated headlining unique to the 2.8 Special is tight and clean with only a tiny nick to the rear of the sunroof catch. The leather covered steering wheel is in beautiful order. All controls fully function including the two-speed heater fan and analogue quartz clock and are housed in a pristine dashboard which is completely free from the common cracking issues. An 80’s iconic interior exactly true to the manufactures intentions.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Capri 2.8 Injection was the first offering of the new Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE) operation that had recently been set up in Dunton, Essex. SVE added a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, an oil/water heat exchanger, viscous coupled fan and an improved radiator making this models 158 BHP capable of 130mph and 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds. A fantastic engine bay has been fastidiously detailed with hundreds of photographs revealing the painstaking process of re-plating, vapour blasting and powder coating. The engine is smooth and quiet whilst producing an unmistakable burble and a deep roar under enthusiastic use! The 5 speed gearbox is light and progression through the range is precise.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This Capri is fitted with the factory original 7-spoke alloy wheels in flawless condition and with correct Ford badged centre caps. Branded Falken Ziex 205/60 R13 tyres are fitted with masses of tread remaining. The hydraulic dual-line servo-assisted brakes with ventilated front discs unique on the 2.8 Special stop the car quickly and in a straight line.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 26th October 1984, Mr A Cooper the previous owner of this car purchased it from a Mr M Hudson, a lifelong Ford enthusiast. Upon taking ownership in February 2012, Mr Cooper, a renowned professional classic vehicle restorer, embarked upon his personal project to restore this example to the highest standard. His motive was to relive his youth having owned a number of examples in the 1980’s! Many journeys viewing both ‘immaculate’ and ‘original’ examples proved fruitless until this un-abused car ticked all the boxes. Sold in April 2014 by KGF Classic Cars to Mr A Tonks who continued the detailing process being an avid Ford enthusiast. A catalogue of photos and account of works carried out make fascinating reading. Taking this example to an even higher level, the finish achieved is impeccable and a credit to both previous keepers and this legendary, iconic Ford Capri.

That is lovely.
I have one in similar condition which my Dad bought new in 1985. Also in Black (which was the only colour which cost more money!) but the stripes and text on bootlid on mine are opposite colours. I often saw this even when these cars were new.
I don't think they are Magnex zorsts as the tail pipes look just a tad too big in diameter. This was a popular mod in the '90s by many owners though and sounded really good. Reminds me I should dust off the old girl who hasn't seen daylight for a few years.
