Not quite. only those with a pre 97 licence can without a further test and assuming its under 7.5ton, post 97 you need a C test. www.gov.uk/driving-motorhomeYou're better off leaving it as a coach because weirdly you can drive a "non earning" coach over 30 years old on a 'B'car licence |

To clarify, the bus is already classed as a camper and has been for many decades. It was a circus vehicle for 20 years. It is less than 5tonnes and as I'm on a pre 97 license, I haven't had an issue. Curiously the previous owner was definitely not old enough to have a pre 97 license and happily drove it around Brighton for years. Also insurance for it was £156pa for anyone (yes anyone with car license pre 97 or otherwise ) to drive it.
Anyone wanting this wonderful machine who is fortunate enough to not have a pre 97 license, please check you can drive it or it will be an expensive garden pot.

How much is MOT for these out of interest? Will probably be gone before I've got cash? Real potential there! MOT is about £50-60 due to it's weight. Fortunately gone soonish but I'm realistic about that. The potential is huge with this, just life change has stopped me realising it. |

Back up for sale after a somewhat indecisive buyer has gone silent..
We are going to get it started and run it through it's MOT but the price will be be more once done.
If you interested, have a look before we do anymore work and get yourself a lovely bus/camper.

Model: Bedford VAS Embassy Bus/camper
A unique piece of history - cool and functional too!
It is a 1960 Bedford VAS Embassy bus. Developed in the late 1950’s, this IS the prototype developed for the new range of Bedford buses in the 1960’s through to the 1980’s as well as the truck chassis’ used in the TK trucks during this time. This is unusual too as its only 27 foot long and originally with 29 seats. We have all the supporting documentation for this, with drawings and technical manuals – a box full.
Year: 1960 when first registered.
Mileage: Approx. 80,000 miles on reconditioned original motor
Registration: 4A ( re-classed as camper – anyone with a car license can drive this )
TAX: NO – Historic vehicle
MOT: NO – easy pass – 2011 last MOT

MECHANICAL
5.0lt 300cc straight six diesel (runs perfectly) - 80,000miles since reconditioning
4-speed manual (all gears work perfectly)
New brakes – air-brake diaphragm, brake lines, drums, shoes all around (£2700 cost to do )
New fuel pump
New wiper motors
Massive towbar - used to tow caravans during it’s previous circus life
Gas hook-up with 47lt gas bottle mounted in boot
Massive solar panel on roof and leisure battery
French log burner
Route display, original fire-extinguisher and first aid kit, intercom and bell all work. Loads of original features still there.
Body and chassis are solid.
Bad points
It’s been parked up for 2/3 years. Needs batteries charged to start it, but will run and pass MOT without much fuss at all.
GOOD POINTS
This is the original prototype from Bedford from the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.
TK parts fit this as this was ‘the’ chassis design for all the Bedford buses and trucks until the 1980’s. Finding parts is not a problem.
Original owner’s manuals and support historical documentation.
Unique 27 foot length body with seating capacity for 29.
Registered as a camper (4A class) which means anyone can drive it on a car license!
POTENTIAL OTHER USES or IDEAS
Why not use it as one of those ‘George Clarkes’ Amazing Spaces’ ideas ? Potential PR vehicle for company, a home office, mobile shop, festival day van, party bus or as a BIG camper. You could just park it in your garden as a Wendy house or use it as a cool, quirky guest room.
