EXTERIOR
This amazing Mazda MX-5 in factory original Classic Red (colour code SU) boasts a pristine deep gloss shine and impeccable finish. The showroom fresh appeal with absolutely no colour fade or deterioration to the paint finish is owing to the incredible low mileage, garaged storage from new and never driven in wet conditions. A tiny stone chip to the front panel and one on the rear scuttle are barely noticeable. The sills are spotlessly clean and the underside condition is truly commensurate with such a low mileage, dry use only and pampered vehicle. The original Mazda Dealer number plates front and rear remain on the car. The black canvas hood is in perfect order with a tight fit and no cracks or damage. The rear plastic window is clear with no crease marks whatsoever. The flawless colour coded hard top comes with a tailor made storage cover and purpose designed wall mounting brackets, all chosen from the Mazda accessories range. The epitome of a modern classic sports car, preserved to the highest order.
INTERIOR
Trimmed in the standard Black Cloth upholstery this interior is exactly how Mazda intended. Everything is co-ordinated and operates perfectly. The spotless high backed seats have adjustable integral headrests offering maximum comfort and support and show no wear whatsoever. The classic sports dashboard houses a cluster of crystal clear instruments that function precisely and retain a new car feel. The supplying dealer branded over mats remain in place and protect the immaculate black carpeting. The tonneau cover, tool kit, wheel brace and covered space saver wheel are all present and spotlessly clean.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
To experience driving a well maintained and cared for Mk 1 MX-5 is a true motoring delight. The lightweight 1.8 litre 16v DOHC engine sits low and behind the front axle to offer a low centre of gravity and centralised weight distribution making handling perfectly balanced and delightfully responsive. The regularly serviced engine is lively and power flow very smooth with excellent low to mid-range torque. A documented recent cambelt change installs user confidence. The close ratio short throw gearbox provides light and precise gear changes. Brilliant!
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This exceptional Mazda has been upgraded with dealer supplied seven spoke 14 x 6.0 JJ alloy wheels which are shod in quality 185/60R14 tyres with excellent tread remaining. The wheels are pristine aside from one small scuff to the front nearside wheel. Incredibly the original and now super rare basic 14 x 5.5 JJ steel wheels are still with the car and provide a delightful insight to the no frills pure driving experience envisaged by Mazda. 255mm ventilated discs at the front and solid 251mm at the back install maximum braking confidence.
HISTORY FILE
This amazing example was registered new by Newport Mazda in Gwent on 8th August 1994 to first owner Mr W J Haggerty who kept the vehicle until April 1998 when upon he sold it to Miss Shirley Hodges who has cherished the car since. A fully documented 13,788 miles with every MOT certificate from new and just two keepers, this vehicle is truly special. The original Mazda Service Record booklet houses many main dealer service stamps, the most recent service at Mazda Main Dealers Donalds of Peterborough in April 2014. All handbooks, manuals, spare keys and point of sale literature are neatly contained in the grey leather Mazda folder along with a period sales brochure.
Virtually impossible to find in such original, low mileage and unmolested condition, this car is sure to delight the collector and is perfectly suited to an enthusiast wanting to experience fun and reliable classic motoring, just as Mazda intended when new 20 years ago!
