Today was the 2014 RACV Classic Showcase at Flemington Racecourse. Usually the MB Club of Victoria has their concourse event at the show, but this year there was a clash with the national rally in Queensland, so there weren’t as many MBs as normal. Instead they let some Japanese cars attend – usually they have their own event. All the better for it IMHO - the Japanese tin added a bit of variety. Now, I could show one pic, and link the flickr album, but I won’t because that is just LAZY (and flickr is giving me the curse word). So, where to begin? British first perhaps? Non-standard P6 SD1 As usual there were loads of Healeys (I mean loads, like a hundred or something). Having said that, there were more of these (MGs in general that is, not these specific MGs) And this one looked rather nice Nice P5B coupe MK1 Capri MK3 Capri (maybe not, don’t really know my Fords that well) Cortina estate Minis Possibly a Moke, possible modified going by the plate Supercharged! So probably madder fun Cool Austin Trailers made from cars

Moving on from that little lot, we’ll progress to the luxury end of British motoring. I don’t know if this left the factory this colour, I suspect if it did they wouldn’t have been too pleased at being asked for one in “fire engine red”. Still, as we shall see later, there was worse lurking in the car park. Look, a Lagonda This is the car used in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (according to the bit of paper in the windscreen). Had a sniper rifle in the glovebox, so maybe it is. Time for some JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGSSSS I think this is a D Type, and I think it was at last year’s Macedon Ranges Grand Tour (which is on again next weekend, maybe it will be there again?) If I had a Jaaag, I’d want it to look like this Right, enough of them – how about a rare Jensen? Okay, where now? France maybe? Alright then, here we go. 2 DS and a BX estate. Salmon Pink DS had a Blue interior – worked quite well actually. Now for the other half of PSA, and a very pretty car, 504 convertible And the 504 itself, which ig it wasn’t for the number you wouldn’t guess was related to the previous car at all Now the bigger brother Renault now, only 2 cars there, a Kangoo (yeah, you read that right, at a classic show) and this, an R4. Now, my dad had one of these, and reckons this has had a new LH front wing because the silencer was under the left wing and heated the spray which helped accelerate corrosion. (R10, which he also owned at one point, had the same problem on the left rear). Sweden next, and some amazing Amazons Ooh, a line of Swedish arses..... And to end this bit, 3 Skodas and a Tatra

And now, the Germans Used 911 Beemers Mercs (there were some there) SEL trys to eat 2 SLs horror! Now, a little modern v classic. This is widely regarded as being the modern version of the car below it, except when you see them close by it isn’t really, apart from the doors Interestingly, the 300SL is RHD, so must have been converted Off to Japan now (my knowledge of old Japanese cars is limited, so excuse any errors) Subarus Daihatsu Honda My understanding of the whole Mitsubishi/Chrysler relationship is non-existent. This is most likely a Chrysler Galant GTO, but it might be a Mitsubishi. A real Aussie may be along in a minute to help RB26 powered GTR VIP style Toyota Majesta (I’d never heard of them either) A CROWN and then a Corolla I wonder how many horsepower these 4 have between them? Better look at the R32 MIGHTY BOY!

Okay, last lot, I promise. Shows in Australia always have an element of the unexpected. Things you wouldn’t expect to see because they were never sold here officially, so must have been imported, or things so rare you’ve never seen one before, and never thought you would, but here they are. Detomaso Mangusta anyone? Must be rare. Maybe only one in Australia? Probably. Now, funnily enough, this is probably also the only one in Australia, so just as rare (bearing in mind no sane person would actually want to import one of these) So, 2 cars which are probably the only one of their type in Australia. Not bad eh? Oh hang on, here is another one. The crazy guy who imported the Chevette must have an even madder relative, who imported one of these Just when you think things can’t get any crazier, along comes somebody even madder than the bloke with the Reliant. Surely nobody in their right mind would think that driving one of these on roads populated by 4WDs the size of a terraced house, and artics with 2 trailers would be a good idea? And finally, a car park spot, the RR that is better than the red one. “What colour would you like sir?” “Yellow please” “Sorry?” ‘”Yellow, like a daffodil” “Err, okay sir”
