EXTERIOR
This stunning sporting Fiesta is finished in polished Strato Silver (code V6) and boasts a fantastic uniform shine throughout. All factory fit panels are straight with linear gaps and there is no rust or corrosion on the vehicle whatsoever. Two tiny dings on the rear offside black arch extension and one on the nearside are visible upon close inspection only. The factory original appeal of this special vehicle is accentuated by standard trim sections, bumpers and XR2 bodyside decals all present, correct and in remarkable order, aside from a localised faint paint imperfection on the front bumper. Even the supplying dealer number plates remain fitted! The factory fitted sunroof, a £124.72 option from new is completely watertight. A 1980’s Ford icon, amazingly well preserved.
INTERIOR
The interior of this remarkable example is in beautiful original condition and exactly as Ford intended. The ‘Storm’ and Crushed Velour interior in Shark Grey with Indian Red detailing (trim code KW) is immaculate and free from tears, rips or discolouration. The Shark Grey loop pile carpet is clean and free from significant wear and the Grey Mylar sidewall and rear quarter finishers are pristine. All switchgear is functional and intact, and the soft finish dashboard with red surround is perfect. The header mounted digital clock is present and retains the correct green LED display, a rare find and often replaced with an incorrect grey LCD fitment. The original trimmed parcel shelf is intact, straight and complete with the correct rubber hangers. A tax disc holder from the XR Owner’s Club highlights the enthusiast ownership of this truly cosseted example.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The time proven transverse mounted 1600 OHV engine with Weber twin-venturi carburettor develops an ample 84BHP in such a lightweight and nimble car, achieving a top speed of 105mph and 0-60 in just 9.3 seconds. The engine is wonderfully quiet and smooth, owing in no doubt to a lifetime of fastidious care and maintenance. The standard specification automatic choke and electronic ignition are both present and correct, and operate perfectly. The four speed synchromesh gearbox with remote shift is light and exact, a joy to use.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five pristine Special ‘pepperpot’ 13” X 6” alloys wheel with factory correct Pirelli P6 185/60HR13 tyres remain with the car, with plenty of tyre tread remaining. The fifth alloy wheel sits in the spare wheel housing which incorporates the correct ‘bulged’ rear lower valance designed to accommodate the enlarged alloy wheel, unique only to the XR2 and Supersport models. The dual line servo assisted brakes with ventilated 9.4” front discs and 7.0” rear drums bring the car up to a steady, straight and assured halt.
HISTORY FILE
This brilliant example was registered new on 24th March 1983 by Ford Main Dealer Nesham of Teeside Ltd to first owner Mr D Crosby. The original slim Ford Service Plan booklet details the build specification and first owner details, and houses a vast array of mainly Ford service stamps to help document the incredible extent to which this car has been maintained. The comprehensive history file further consists of a huge collection of service and maintenance invoices throughout the cars history, as well as many previous MOT certificates to fully support the genuine low mileage of 74,903. The original Ford Car Owner handbook and dealer locator guide remain along with two sets of keys.
Not often does such a rare surviving example become available with such a brilliant and extensive history file. A real crowd pleaser, ready to be enjoyed and preserved for many years to come.
