I've decided to put my Pajero up for sale to fund something new. I originally bought this in July to play out in over the winter but I don't think we're getting one soon so it's time to go!
Model: Pajero 2.5td
Year: 1991, imported in 1998
Mileage: 130,000 miles approx (displays in km)
Tax: July 2014
MOT: July 2014
Location: Halifax
Price: £850 ono (would swap for an MG F/TF or at a push an MX5)
I bought this in summer 2013 to run over the winter and keep my mini off the road. I was drawn to it for the colour, it's an import only colour and is not very common over here, the car was imported from Japan in 1998 and comes with the twin battery cold start pack. Even though having been in the country for 15 years when I got it, the car was not undersealed, I waxoiled the underbody and chassis when I got it and was very impressed with the condition of the arches before hand. On the entire car I have only found two patches, one very old looking patch on the rear offside chassis (common area) and one patch on the offside inner wing (not structural).
2.5 turbo diesel with automatic transmission. Has the reputation of being the slowest of all the engines but I've never had any issues with my own, it sounds in much better condition than other similar aged cars. I personally find the auto box much better for offroading, you just point it at things and press the pedal down! These were originally designed to compete with the Range Rover, as such, it has air con, electric windows, mirrors and central locking, its more refined that a defender and not as big as a disco or range.
Full automatic fluid swap and new pads all round when I got it in July 2013. Two new shock absorbers and two mud and snow tyres fitted also fitted in July. The car has 3 mud tyres and one standard road tyre, all the same sizes and loads of tread. Has a good set of McGuard locking nuts which I fitted in July. Very capable off road and I have only had it stuck once, up a very steep wet grassy hill, other than that it keeps up with even the modified stuff! Snorkel fitted about the same time and has been well tested.
New timing belt, balance belt, air con belt, power steering belt and water pump fitted in December 2013 at 206,151km. There was no cause for this work, I was having the timing belt changed anyway and all those bits are in the way!
The car has had two new alternators in February after one died within a few weeks. The one currently fitted is a 2.8 item and is much newer than the original one was, the thermostat was also changed for a 2.8 item at the same time as these seem to be the only ones available now.
I'm using this daily for work at the moment and getting about 24mpg, it has Super Select 4wd which means you can drive it on the road in either 4 or 2wd. The 4wd system works fine, low range and centre locking diff all work properly and it has an LSD at the rear. The centre diff doesn't like to disengage if it is only being used in short burst, I've greased the solenoid which has made it more co-operative but other than that I just try to keep it engaged for at least 15mins when in use.
The interior lets the car down slightly, it has obviously seen proper use in its previous life as it has with me. Some of the seat backs have small rips which have been repaired with gaffer tape (of course) by a previous owner, at least it's the right colour! I had all the seats and carpets out when I got the car to clean them, the floor is in excellent condition and the car clearly has no leaks inside. The car does have rear carpet and 3 seats in the rear, I just don't have a photo of that to hand. The altimeter works fine as does the inclinometer. Unlike most cars, the inclinometer hasn't leaked all its fluid out and there are no bubbles in it. The compass seems to have a bad connection and will sometimes work dependant on its mood. The car has a removable sunroof and air con, I havn't used the air con myself but I'd guess that it needs re-gassing as the car was stood for a year before I got it. I'll be leaving a cd player in the car but this isn't shown in the photos!
Externally the car has some scratches which are expected with its age and the type of car it is. theres a small bit of rust in the middle of the door.
There is some play in the pitman arm, I have had the warranty checked by Mitsubishi and this car has never had it changed. This means it can be done for free by Mitsubishi, I havn't had it done yet as my nearest dealer is an hour away and I just havn't had the spare time yet.
I can't really think of anything else needed to describe this and I've tried to be mega critical, so if there is anything else, just ask! I'd like £1000 ono for this really capable 4x4.
