I sold my Peugeot Expert last week. Buyer arranged for somebody to collect on a transporter the following day. Unfortunately the collector was held up and as I had to go out for a hospital appointment I simply asked wife to get info for the V5 and give them the new owner slip. Needless to say the collector said he'd get buyer to contact me and they have done nothing until I sent them a text today. Now seems buyer is a trader and wants the first page of the V5 (no problem with that) however I no longer have the yellow slip to send off as it got shredded seeing I assumed it was a private buyer and they were given the blue slip.
So will a letter to DVLA giving the same details as would be on the yellow slip be sufficient ?
Cheers.

I've done exactly that in the past, with no issues. However, as both buyer and seller should still sign the yellow slip, I'm not sure how it would stand if anything did happen.
Maybe worth giving the DVLA a call and see of you can get any worthwhile information from them.

As simple letter to the DVLA explaining what happened should be fine, if they think something dodgy is going on they will write back to you for more info.

Make sure they do respond to your letter, I got caught out recently by them losing post and got landed with an £80 fine for DVLA incompetence.

I have to agree with Paul, DVLA are very good at losing paperwork, I have had fines for not telling them about change of ownership but luckily I had kept the 'thanks for telling us' letter they had sent the year previous and several for not declaring SORN on cars that had been scrapped. I have even received a new V5 in my name for a car I had sold, they had put the new owners name as the previous owner.
