That does look nice, especially for the money, I've seen basket cases make silly amounts. One of these is definitely on my 'bucket list' so to speak, just not a possibility at the moment :-(

We both know you'll find rust on most 1987 BMW's, in my opinion it's a very tidy example. This is not a "known" fact. I have 1983 and 1986 BMWs in my workshop right now neither of which have any rust, and have never been welded. Advertising a car in the way that you have and then expecting people to accept that there may be some rust is misrepresentation and an assumption too far. Not sure when it was written off as I didn't bother HPI'ing it but was disclosed by the previous owner, (it was before he owned it). "Didn't bother"? On a 4 grand motor (correct at time of writing) that you know to have a Category write-off against it and you decided NOT to spend a fiver finding out when and why this happened? On an old car it could be a bumper scuff. Or it could be a front end smash and the legs are bent. But you'd rather not bother to check it out so that you can reassure your customer base that it isn't a cut'n'shut? The pictures you've put up show none of the typical rust areas on a 6er. You were specifically asked, very reasonably so, by a trader, dare I say something of a relative expert in these cars, for pictures of these areas with the caveat that should they be as good as you say, a sale would take place. Your refusal not only cost you that sale, but many more in the next viewers that see it as you hiding something. I recently sold a 1984 csi, for half of what you started at, and I provided to anyone and everyone that asked, a close-up of every arch, multiple interior shots, and detailed descriptions of all the usual rot spots, all of which were excellent in my car. It did not cost me anything, and the car has gone happily off to a new owner. One who lives 20 miles away, and I had viewers coming from up to two hours away, but you will not provide the same simple courtesy to those many hundreds of miles from you?? Also, a last, further note. Hidden amongst that absolute twaddle of a description, presumably a copy'n'paste from one of 4stars adverts or something, and which totally fails to describe the vehicle at hand, you gloss over such items as 'the OBC does not operate fully'. Now that is something, as a purveyor of 80s BMWs, I would like dealt with in more detail, whereas I do not need to know that the bumpers have rubber rub strips. Also, to say the wheels are pristine, then immediately say there are small scuffs, means they are NOT pristine. VGC, excellent perhaps, but pristine? No. They are also the wrong wheels for the car if you are going to insist on the originality as a main selling point. There are many other points, but for now, that is enough. You'll find that an honest, concise and detailed description, allied to a willingness to comply with any reasonable request, is the best method to successfully selling on here. |

Not to be judgemental (I'm still very much new here after all), but it does strike me as odd that someone would bother to advertise a car on here but do it in such a way that raises, or at least doesn't help to address, concerns that a genuine and knowledgeable buyer has and then would rather get into an argument about it on their own "for sale" thread than attempt to resolve things as most honest sellers would do as a matter of course. Sorry for the massive sentence!
For the record, I have lurked for ages, recently sold an old shed in about two hours as it was the right price and am in negotiation to buy two more cars on here. The community here, especially the regulars, seems really friendly and the OP's attitude doesn't seem to fit in with this.

I'm not some casual surfer trolling about with comments about random threads either. I was genuinely interested in this car when I saw the pics at first. A 635 is one of the cars I want to own at some point, but you lost a sale to me a long time ago.

I like the look of the car, but from seeing pics put up by BavarianRetro on FB I know how these rust and anyone who won't take pics to prove or disprove the rusty nature of the car makes me want to look elsewhere, rightly or wrongly it just screams shady to me. Which is a pity as its quite local to me and i've always fancied one

It's not as if you have to go and get them developed and posted to a potential buyer. Everyone and their mum has a decent camera on their phone so if you haven't got one I'm sure you know someone who has.
If you don't have the technical know how to post the pics on the Internet (which you have already done so maybe you have) then email them all to me and I'll do it. I'll do it for free to help you.
If you don't have a ramp then at least get a torch and light up the problem spots people have asked for photos of then take the pic as phone cameras don't do well in the dark sometimes.
