It seems like a long while ago that we bought the black/lotus E24 Highline at the other end of the country.
It finally got here on Saturday and it is a real curate's egg.
Mechanically, it definitely has a cylinder head problem which is disappointing because the engine starts and sounds lovely, but it is no big deal really as we've a few M30b35s here which'll drop in no problem.
It starts, drives, steers and stops and on a low speed, short, test drive, it certainly feels good.
The Highline is already fully specified and by the time this car was built in the last few weeks of production, there wasn't much left to tick on the options list. This has cruise, top tint screen and heated seats.
The lotus white interior is dirty and tatty, but in the main, it is in undamaged condition. The seats in particular are good.
I had a good look at it this morning.
It needs:-
Engine (cheapest option is to drop in a known good one - we have one)
Welding:-
Rear of both sills - the offside is worse needing significant repairs. The near side has been repaired to MoT standard before and you might get away with it for one more MoT;
Offside floor pan severely rusted;
Please bear in mind that once you start digging, the rust will only get worse. The offside in particular may have reached as far as the subframe mount.
Exhaust - rear section seriously rusted.
Bodywork:-
One wing needs replaced\repaired. One is very good.
Paintwork needs attended to - whole car needs repainted.
Interior:- Tatty/dirty but mostly undamaged. Torn stitching on dash. Door pulls repaired. Seats good, carpet very good.
It IS saveable, but make no mistake, it is a pretty significant restoration project.
If anyone fancies taking it on, either as is, or with some of the work done, please get in touch.
It is not economically viable for us to restore it and sell it.
If you've any interest in it either as a project, fully restored or for parts from it, please get in touch.
I suspect, sadly, it will be broken for spares.
