Hi!
I have the opportunity to get my hands on a 1995 1.5mpi automatic Proton Persona/Wira. I love the boxy look of them, and this one is rocking a BROWN interior, but literally know nothing about them! Can anyone shine any light on: Places to check for rot. Common faults. Suspension set up. (Would look good a few inches lower) Pcd.
Any other info would be awesome.
Nice one!

Having lived in Malaysia for five years, I cannot think of a single, solitary positive thing to say about a Proton, so, in the spirit of RR, I shall not comment

Year ago, my father whom is easily swayed by the worst salesmen ended up with a proton, part ex'ing his tidy c-class at the time. I have still not forgiven him, and I think it actually haunts him. This thread has brought back terrible memories!

Evo 1-3 suspension bolts on, 4-6 bolts on with a top mount swap.
Pretty much everything Evo bolts in, I love em, they're pretty bullerproof mechanicals wise.

Worse than Marmite, in the respect that most people probably hate them.

I could be quite partial to the idea of taking a 3dr and using it to re-shell a Mitsubishi Evo 1 with a few engine mods and spartan trim.
What a hot hatch that'd be.

My stepdad had a 99 Proton Persona for ten years, and apart from tyres, exhausts and the occasional ball joint or gaitor nothing The bodywork never rotted, the electric windows where a bit temperamental and the Mechanical s would not die , trust me I tried my best to kill it, (He 'donated it to me' as he gave up driving) pepper mint green with similar interior didnt want it, but as your old folk give you guilt complexes I had it and for 2 damn years I tried to kill it.... Nope...would not bloody die So ahem....YES very reliable sir!!

Mixed responses then!
At the end of the day its gotta be worth a punt for a boxy mid nineties automatic saloon with a brown interior... ticks pretty much every box for me.
Thanks for the comments. Any more are very welcome. I will be swapping a 6n polo for it...

About 15 years ago I did work for the type of garage that sells anything.....they bought in Proton's of this vintage from auctions. I remember how well under-sealed they were, and as above the mechanical's are bullet proof. Buy it !!
