I took my Bluebird in for a MOT last week, but one of the things that it failed on was a bush on the rear anti-roll bar. So far I have not been able to find a replacement bush and was wondering what my chances of it passing with no rear anti-roll bar or mountings attached - if it's not there, it can't be tested, right?
I'm aware that it might affect the handling characteristics, but it is such a weedy looking thing on an otherwise stock 1.6 Nissan Bluebird, that I can't see it making that much of a difference.

If it's play in the bush, loosen the bolts and slip a thick washer or two under the D bush and tighten the bolts back up. It takes the slack out of the bush, it's a bit of a Bodge but it bloody well works! It'll get you your mot pass. If you remove the bar and retest at the same garage it may be failed on having it removed on the basis that it had one. Provided you present it for the test in the first instance without any trace it's fine. Just stick some washers under the bushes. Less effort than taking it off and it's a pass as there is no play

Unfortunately the bush has completely detached from it's outer ring, so I don't think it could be made good for the MOT. Might just see them to ask what their opinion is.

Have you tried Nissan for the bush? They might have something.. Or see if rock auto has a part number that you can give to unipart or something.

You are right in saying if it's not there it cant be tested, but i'm not sure how you stand if it was fitted in the original test then you present the car for re-test with it removed as the tester could say if it was fitted as original equipment it should still have it. He'd need to be a strict tester though.

Try Chris Witor (superflex) for the bushes, if you remove the ARB and all associated fitting then it can't be failed even if it was previously there.
It can only be failed it the lack of an ARB has an adverse effect of any other component that in the testers opinion makes the car unsafe to drive (i.e if one of the mounting points is also that of another component)

Good suggestion, I'll try and find a local Nissan dealer to see if they might be able to supply parts. Rock auto doesn't show anything where I would expect it. I guess another option is that I could 'hard mount' it, but I'd rather do it right first time. Now the bush is off, I can see numbers cast in the rubber, 56243 0E00, but a quick google hasn't shown anything too useful. It's the end bush, ARB to vertical link, that has failed, see below for pic.

That could be a fail if removed as it could be classed as part of the suspension.

That would probably be a fail if you remove it, there are bush kits on aussie ebay. What year is yours?

looks like a simple cylindrical polybush would do the trick.
