I'M NEW TO THE FORUM AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO UPLOAD PHOTOS, BUT CONTACT ME IF YOU'RE INTERESTED AND I CAN EMAIL SOME TO YOU.
I have for sale a 1996 Citroen AX in good condition and with only 60,000 miles on the clock. The mileage appears to be genuine, as some of the stamps in the service book show only a few thousand miles between each service.
I bought the car just before Christmas as a temporary runabout and it has just failed its MOT on a few issues (see below). Nothing major, but I don't have the time (or inclination if I'm honest!) to do the work myself. The MOT expires on 16th March and it's taxed until the end of April, so it can be driven home legally for the next couple of days.
If I'm honest there are also a few other jobs are looming (see below), so PLEASE READ THE ADVERT CLOSELY AND TREAT IT AS A PROJECT CAR. Having said that the AX is a very simple and very few jobs are beyond the capabilities of the average DIY mechanic. There is a Haynes manual with the car so you can get stuck in straight away !
The Good Bits:
• Very good bodywork (only a couple of holes - see "The Bad Bits")
• Excellent unmarked interior
• Great little 954cc engine. Surprisingly torquey for its size and giving great economy.
• Four very good tyres (the fronts have only done a couple of thousand miles)
• Immobiliser
• Cassette play (very retro !)
• Unusual registration number (N48 KWW)
• Low insurance group
• MOT until 16th March
• Tax until end of April
The Bad Bits
• MOT failure (see below)
• Knocking noise on cornering indicating that one or both driveshafts may be worn (??)
• Hole in each front wheel arch behind the headlight (an AX weak point)
• Lacquer has peeled off in a couple of places
• The car has obviously had a bump on the offside at some point in its life behind the driver's door. This has been beaten out but there are signs of unevenness in the bodywork around this area. It doesn't affect the closing of the driver's door and isn't really that noticeable.
The MOT Failure items:
• Offside front ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt.
• Nearside rear brake recording little or no effort
• Offside brake cable has restricted free movement
• Offside rear brake pipe excessively corroded
• Offside rear brake binding
• Front exhaust has a major leak of exhaust gases
• Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content at idle excessive
• Parking brake efficiency below requirements
So basically it's just a bit of work on the brakes, a tweak of the emissions and the front exhaust pipe (which the garage told me can be welded).
I've tried to be as honest as I can but I'm no mechanic and I advise that you come and look at the car BEFORE you bid to make sure it's the sort of thing you're looking for. It is 18 years old, after all. Contact me if you would like to view or if you would like any further information. My mobile is 07928 - 671410. The car is in Cannock, Staffordshire.
