Hello Retro rides - Not been on here long but lurked since way back. It's always seemed like a really friendly and open minded place unlike a lot of the marque specific forums - Hence me doing this here. It's my first car thread, so be nice.
Got this back in October last year, it's my second foray into Mk2 Golf territory. I was inches away from buying a Mk1, but found that one that didn't need a grands worth of welding wasn't in my price bracket. So this caught my eye in the classifieds. It's the car I used to dream about having when I had my first Mk2 - A G60 conversion. All the fun, without the price tag and the left hand drive stupidness.
For those who care for such VW guff - This ones running a G60 from a corrado with stage 4 charger with 68mm pully and is on DTAs40 ECU management. It's also bored out to a 1.9. Dyno'd at Track N Road in Essex at 210hp and 220 ft/lbs or torqueseses. It was originally a 1.8 8 valve standard GTI.
Wheel wise - It's running some rather curbed up Ronal LS 15x7.5 ET25, care of the previous owner. Really like these wheels, just wish I could afford a refurb/new set. Cruising German Ebay last week I found a nice set of Alulines though. They are in the MIM1900 style with the silly ET13 offset so should be interesting to see how they go on and whether I'm over tire'd. Would be nice to fill out the arches a bit. The tires are brand new (replacing the Nankang ditch finders) 195 50 15 Uniroyal Rainsport 3, you may notice the weird hybrid wet/dry tread. Typically it's stopped raining so much now I've put them on.
No real 'plans' other than wheels at the moment, I think I'm going to try out a few this summer but I am on a budget. Other than that long term, I'd like to bring it up to a good OEM plus standard. Replacing bits of trim, tidying the interior and maybe putting in VDO guages. Then a lick of paint at some stage.
Anyway, thanks for looking.
Ed

Nice car. How's the 'charger and belt combination? I've heard the G60s can be a bit weak in that area. Mine's a cammed ABF.

Thanks for the comments. As for the G60 bit, it was not what I expected at all driving wise. After having a revvy little 8valve this is like having a slow revving torque monster that pulls forever. Takes a bit of getting used to and requires a different driving style. Charger and belt wise it was serviced about 15k ago, so I have another 10-15k before I have to pay around £300 for a refurb. There is always that niggle at the back of your mind that there is the chance it could go at any time though, which takes a tiny bit of the fun out of things. I kind of knew that before signing up though. I've never driven a cammed ABF but I'd imagine that is almost as much fun. Looks wise - It was a strange situation of being really happy with how the car looked for the moment I bought it, so don't want to mess with it too much. Saying that... These go on tomorrow. free photo hostingimgurlI think they are E30 or similar spec alulines, as they have the Et13 offset that so many BMW's of the era had. Gave it a wash n shine today - This weather is insanely good for March. free screenshot tool

Cheers very much. Got the new wheels on this morning. Gives it a very different look and they JUST clear the arches. Probably gonna rub with people in the back over bumps. I rarely have anyone in back though so heyho. Still think I prefer the cross spoke look of the Ronals/BBS but not sure whether to refurb or upscale to something else...

Very tidy, not 100% on the new wheels though. Sure I've seen this car somewhere else on the net recently....
Nice interior too.

Same with the wheels. I think i need skinnier tyres and more lows to pull it off (not really feasible in my area). But a bit of change was needed and I picked these up dirt cheap. The condition of the other wheels (care of PO) made it look like I was hitting every curb in sight. I think these will be my eventual choice, very nice OEM look with better fitment. www.facebook.com/bstarwheelsI've not put pictures anywhere else yet, the guy who owned it before was on Club Gti though. There are a lot of Mk2's in this colour around. There is a very similar one a mile down the road from me, he's got some wide Borbet A's on.

Got my Ronal wheels refurbed so the alulines (pics above) are now for sale in the classifieds here > retrorides.proboards.com/thread/169664/aluline-wheels-4x100-15x7-fitmentHere it is sitting back on the Ronals. Got it through it's first MOT in my ownership, which was let's say more pricey than expected. I had all new brakes and pads fitted at the same time so it's stopping in good fashion and in a straight line. I think a new exhaust is next on the list as it's blowing slightly and I want to get a twin pipe back box to bring it back to a more OEM look. Number plate and surround got totalled by a piece of inch think chip board coming off the back of a lorry at the weekend. Probably the best place it could have hit to be honest, pretty damn lucky it wasn't windscreen or body work. Gonna look into getting some pressed plates. Anyone know about legality issues? I've seen some advertisied as "road Legal" pressed plates.

Nice car! I like the wheels, different then the normal Golf 2 look.
If you want to get those bumpers nice and black again, try linseed oil. Costs next to nothing and does the job nice and easy. Used it on my old Jetta and worked great.

Thanks guys. They do suit a lot of different wheels styles but Ronals do just look right, I guess because they are so close to the OEM wheel design.
I will give Linseed a go. I've got Simoniz bumper black which works well but doesn't last very long. It's more for lack of me cleaning it, that it doesn't look great at the moment. I've been using it a lot though which is good, enjoying summer drives in it.
