I changed the rear break pads on the merc this afternoon. Putting the wheels back on it was obvious that one of the bolt threads was mullered. I ran a tap down the hub and that cleaned up fine so my only problem now was a bolt. I thaught as it was open and just round the corner i'd pop round to Halfords and see if they could help. Having worked in Homebase I know these type of stores end up with all sorts of curse word that falls out of packages or comes astray from returns, so I thought the guys there might have some random wheel bolts around. The two lads had a good root around. They found a bolt, in a full set, at about the same time that i realised that i had come out of the house with no money or wallet. Feeling a bit cheeky I suggested it might be possible to loose that wheel bolt from the set. I thanked the lads very much, told him how much i like his polo and left. Pausing In the car park to fix the fifth near side real wheel bolt in place.
Thank you Lads that work in Halfords, You are the Bestest.

Blimey! When I saw the title of the thread I thought it was gonna be one of those "I went into Halfords and they didn't even have a core plug kit for my Mazda Carol on the shelves" kind of thing. Glad they were so helpful! Gotta say I've had mostly negative experiences with them, but when they're the only place open on a Sunday afternoon...

I used to work at Halfords. I had a bloke come in and ask for some piston rings for an RX 7. I told him he was very funny.
I also had a bloke come in asking for a rear crank seal for an early Lotus Europa (big buttress) and seemed stunned when I knew it had the 'sierra' type Renault 16 engine. We got him the part and this other lad I worked with got a recommendation based on a letter he sent in. curse word.
Halfords Broadheath used to have a curse word hot parts dept when Andy McKee worked there. He since got curse word off with the company and went elsewhere.
I will agree that the Chesterfield branch is teh law. Praise be.

There used to be this real honey working at my local store. Fckin' useless for parts but she used to make the visit a little more bearable... I'll give 'em credit though, they are good for tools.

I used to work at Halfords. I had a bloke come in and ask for some piston rings for an RX 7. I told him he was very funny. mr wankel must be spinning in his grave. in a sort of off centre, yet surprisingly smooth fashion of course. (huzzah! i used the phrase "spinning in their grave" and the person was actually dead this time!.....how morbid) I had a pleasant experience with one of halfords employees. in a layby as well (ooh err!). I broke down on the way home from CaRS last year and I noticed someone pull out of halfords (i noticed him because of the nice golf) he then pulled up and asked if I needed a lift or any help. nice thing to do when coming straight from work when most people just want to get home.

Bobz.... I'm with you on the Chesterfield branch, they're especially good at not asking too many questions when you take the third breaker bar back in as many hours for a free exchange (magnesium wheels + steel bolts + 15 years of storage = lots of force needed!)
