www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=9334Refusal costs offender £1,000 in fines and costsScrap your Trabbies, say the Peak District National Park Authorities. Shan't, said Graham Goodall -- and copped a £750 fine plus £250 costs as a result. The retired engineer, who collects East German Trabants, storing them in a field 400 metres from a public footpath, was told to get rid of them because they were an eyesore -- officially, caused "harm to the character and amenity of the area". When he didn't, he was found guilty of failing to comply with an enforcement notice to get rid of 40 of his 49-strong fleet of cars by last March. His collection still sits in the village of Middleton by Youlgreave, Derbyshire, and he says he's devastated, calling it an injustice and claiming that his human rights have been violated. In court, his lawyer called it his hobby. The action was brought after other residents complained, apparently.

It does seem ridiculous but people are like that, as are councils There has to be a solution though? Build a fence? grow a hedge? transplant a hedge? Build a big ugly bland grey shed the size fo the paddock and have them complain about THAT being an eyesore ;D Trabants will be dry though!

Here in Ireland the local council used a helicopter to find old cars/spares vehicles that were stored in fields etc and prosecuted owners

He should have told the council he was a "traveller"......

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

I remember seeing a programme on that guy - he's not all that far from me. Neighbours can be a proper pain in the backside - one of our neighbours really hates us having loads of old cars coming and going (and staying around : . It isn't really any of their business: they have a rockery in their front garden, I had an XR4i in mine..... ;D I'll be disappointed if he can't keep his trabbies - he should apply for a Lottery grant (For conservation of East German history!)

Yeah what he said He ought to take it further - European Court of Human Rights or something. Having seen the programme the neighbors are the kind of not a very nice persons that would report you to the council for farting - retired busybodies with cock-all else to do other than peer over other people's fences and complain because it isn't something they are interested in / understand. It makes me wonder what the world would be like if all these people that concerned themself with petty irrelevant disputes instead attached themselves to a worthwhile cause of some significance. Hey! That's not what I wrote! It's a conspiracy I tell you! A conspiracy!..... *men in white coats drag raving idiot from his computer...* ;D

If they were anything like our current mob that sounds about right to me.
Anyone else hear about the idea of having all the cars in the UK fitted with a transmitter that allows it to be tracked at any time for whatever reason the Government wants to track us all. If you told me about it a few years ago I'd have laughed and said you'd been reading too much Orwell. Now it looks like Orwell was right.

He should have told the council he was a "traveller"...... Yeah like the f**cking travellers the council moved into a house down the end of our street. Road is now often completely blocked by Transit vans, there's now a sudden proliferation of shopping trolleys abandoned everywhere etc. Their kids are foul-mouthed ill disciplined little c**ts and they let their "dags" curse word everywhere. It's funny how now everything that's made of metal and not nailed down seems to disappear - these toerags are so blatant that the in-laws have had to install cctv! It's not like this is the ghetto or anything either. We live on a quiet street of well-presented semi's (mostly inhabited by retired types) of which only abou 6 (out of 50-ish) are still owned by the council If you want to live in a house (that you get for nowt unlike the rest of us with mortgages to pay) then f**king well behave like we do not some kind of animals. I know we're supposed to be a fair, open minded and tolerant society, and it's petty-minded to go around with a NIMBY mentality, but sometimes it just makes you sooooo mad!

I know it's wrong to stereotype, and recently gypsies have been more vocal about prejudice towards them, but in my experience whenever the "travellers" came to stay when I was in London there would be a massive crime-wave in the area - cars stolen / vandalised, burglaries, and one hell of a mess left behind when they finally moved on.
Oh dear this seems to have strayed off-topic a bit hasn't it?!

I am highly offended when I see 10 Mondeos lined up on a garage forcourt, as indeed I am sure many of you would also be.
Does this give me the right to complain to the council about the aformentioned eyesore and have them fine the garage £1000?

It's only because they're old cars that the council's getting at him, he's an easy target. Classic cars in general are an easy target. The Government and pseudo-intellectual envoiromentalist types claim they're the sole reason for global warming, congestion, and the problem of people dumping clapped out old hatchbacks in the road (of course they claim that they're classics being left there) all in one, and so many middle class eejit types fall for it that nobody objects when the government bullies classic owners for money. The reason we have no support in standing up to the b*stards is that Blair and Co have managed to turn the public against us, I already objected a while back to all those adverts, TV, magazines and such that portray anyone with an old car as a failure in life and a nuisance to everyone who knows him, and the hero in the new car is always sauve, fashionable and has pretty girls hanging off him. (The one where the guy pulls up in a VW type 2 and the girl won't go near him, then he pulls up again in a spongy yuppie mk4 Golf cabriolet and she's all over him and the neighbours are all dead jealous, for example) That rubbish does nothing but make people who can't really afford it mortgage and remortgage until they have nothing left of their own in the hope of becoming popular and successful and getting nothing but a life of debt and misery, and makes all of us look like an inferior race, and the reason for respectable middle class peoples' problems! LOOK TONY, AND ALL YOUR CAPITALIST MATES, LEAVE US THE HELL ALONE AND CONCENTRATE ON THE REAL PROBLEMS IN THIS COUNTRY!!!
