For sale:
1999 Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia
We have had this car since November 2012 and due to a recent incident my wife will no longer drive it. It developed a fault on the M3 slip road where the accelerator became stuck open (hence her fear). I have examined the problem and it appears that the return spring on the throttle body has lost its tension and does not close with full force at high speeds. I have since worked the mechanism and it appears to be behaving normally, however I would advise against driving above 50mph or heavy exceleration until it has been assessed properly. It could be a simple repair by replacement job, but as we needed a car in a hurry we have already found another so this unfortunately has to go.
Bad points:
- Lacquer is starting to go over the passenger rear wheel arch (see picture).
- Someone needed the 'focus' badge more than we did apparently (see picture).
- Car has collected some car park dings an scratches from us and from previous owners.
- Occasionally at idle the exhaust knocks against the subframe, a simple fix perhaps?
- Central locking has stopped working.
- Electric wing mirrors no longer move in all directions.
- Only have the one key
Good points:
- Annoyingly reliable until recent fault.
- Power steering
- Air conditioning
- CD multichanger (factory fitted)
- Alloy wheels
- Stainless exhaust
- Drives well too, considering it only has a 1.6 engine its very lively
Other important bits of information to mention: we replaced the exhaust manifold and exhaust last year, it has MoT until March '14 and Tax until May '14. It has 150K on the clock and we are looking to make space on our driveway as I have a project car which I really need to get out of my friends garage!
Regardless of it's recent escapade it really is a joy to drive and returns a decent mileage, considering I'm not particularly keen on Fords I'm sorry to see this car go.
