Introducing Suzie the sceptre. Bought originally over the phone without even seeing a picture of her. The plan was to break her for parts and banger race what was left. In the days that followed that plan soon changed haha she was far to good to break.
First job was to get her running which took all of 20 mins much to my delight. the previous owner had had the engine and gearbox rebuilt and had converted it with a manifold to run a 32/36 weber carb. few checks and she fired straight up and drove off the truck. next job was check all the braking system. another result, all new brakes and pipes.
right time to sort the ride height.

now we had a nice ride height and a good running gear it was time to sort out the terrible paintwork and damage/rust repairs. luckily working in a bodyshop this wouldn't be a hardship.
bit of a session with the mop and polish for a few nights after work.
vinyl restorer applied to the webesto roof.
start of the strip down ready for the body repair. now luckily 99% of the rust/damage is in the lower half so only the cream will need to be resprayed.

unfortunately all 4 arches are like this. time to make some templates and get shaping some new arches. this takes weeks in the lead up to Christmas
This is where I am up to at the minute. all put back together except fitting the door panels next dilemma tho is to weather get the original wheels banded to fill out those arches. what does everyone think. Banded steels painted cream fitted with hub caps or standard wheels painted cream fitted with hub caps??

il get the rims bolted back on in the morning and work out how wide I can get them banded. how much clearance would you guys suggest between lip of rim and arch lip on the rear? just thinking about any sideways give/flex in the rear leaf spring axel set up. And should I stagger the front and rear widths for that hot rod feel?

If you are worried about the stability of the rear springs under cornering The best thing you can do to is fit a panhard bar or watts linkage, with a watts linkage it will also be easy to centralise the axle, also transform the handling, IMO, Pound for Pound the best suspension mod you can make on a leaf sprung car. With stock suspension, As your arches partially cover the wheel, Measure the clearance both sides, then jack the car up on the jacking points and check how much room there is to remove the wheel at the top, probably both sides again. without lateral location, I would think 25mm from each arch, with a watts linkage, possibly as little as 5mm, that's all I ran on my Cortina 5mm was adequate, and never touched.

That looks fantastic! I vote for banded black steels with chrome hubcaps. How did you lower it? Couple of coils cut up front and blocks out back?

Going to look into a watts linkage and probably invest in that kinda setup. Ive had a look today and could just about sqeeze a extra 2.5" on to the rear wheels. looking at a 1" band on to the front wheels. Wheels are back from sandblasters today so there being dropped of at my mates tomorrow to be banded. Mmmmmm gloss black wheels?!?!?

Silver or Rich Cream used to be the name on the dulux can when I was a kid, that's what we painted our wheels with then,

I don't think i have any pics of the interior at the moment. If its light enough when i finish work tomorrow il take a few and post them up. I think i may have to paint a couple of the wheels different colours and see what looks best. Had a fiddle with the weber before and she still wont behave. Trip to the rolling road for a tune up and a power run are on the cards me thinks. Il fit a new inlet manifold gasket and change the points and condenser first and fit new plugs as there a bit of a unknown factor. Was ment to be selling her but I'm sure i can make room for her amongst the other projects/finished cars in the workshop haha

Top car, top color, top save, top man, well done.
I like the oe wheels on this and although a subtle band would also work feel that clean and dropped is good too. Burgundy, black wall tyres and hubcaps is the way I'd do it but hey, your car so do what you choose.
