Radiator......?? Jeepney, some other crazy asssed mode of modded transport? Yeah, that's what I figured. Either that or the worlds most over-cooled Vios! Earlier camborne was mentioned, which always reminds me of this Ttfn Glenn Well that's Easter over for another year. The first procession (band and all) went past at 05:00 yesterday, followed by another 8 as the day went on. The sales of half-sized statuettes carrying crosses must have broken all records! They were showing the jams on the north and south expressways last night as everyone and his mother was trying to get back into Manila again. Utter chaos and I reckon some will still be there! Now people are heading back to work, we'll find out if the rumour that Mr NEDA was to have a word with Mr DoT about my freight line was true or not. That's a cynical laughing smiley, by the way.

Well children... In a land far, far away, there was a President called Duterte who decided that drug dealers were really, really bad people and declared a "war" against them. And that's where we are. Madam's driver also doubles as her minder and I know he got stuck (verbally) into a little feud that was kicking off with one of her estranged brothers the other day. As usual, the coward slunk away but, in Duterte's Philippines, a quick anonymous call is all it takes to galvanise the police into fervent action. Well, that or a cattle prod. Anyway, this morning, a couple of coppers arrived and said they'd like a word with him. He knew one of them so wandered around the corner where they promply cuffed him and carted him down to the aforementioned Mariones nick. It was done that quietly that I, who was working with the balcony door open one floor above, heard nothing. Had they arrested him on the spot, he'd have called out. Seven hours later, I've just got back home, leaving Madam, a couple of her friends and the girls on vigil, just so the police know they can't just disappear him. I'll be back in the morning all lawyered-up if they decide to bring charges. Apparently they have 24 hours to "investigate", which takes us to 11 tomorrow. What really annoys me is that I may not be virulently anti-very much, but there’s no way I’d have a shabu user/dealer anywhere near me, let alone the girls. Such is life... It's more drug addled in the Philippines!

Maybe it would be good for them to investigate the 'anonymous' tipster who has wasted their time?

That sucks big time.
Sadly I think there are many places this sort of stuff goes on.
I hope it all ends up being just a "misunderstanding"

To be done Maybe their palms could also be greased enough to point them in the anonymous citizens direction? Already done That sucks big time. Sadly I think there are many places this sort of stuff goes on. I hope it all ends up being just a "misunderstanding" Well, another day down the nick, at which the lawyer singularly failed to turn up, it was time for more direct action... And because we all love a happy ending (can I say that here?), Manila's finest have decided that Kuya is actually a lovely person and, for a small donation to some children's charity or other, which we've just sorted, he'll walk free on Monday. Monday because that's the first arraignment date (due to the ASEAN summit closing everything tomorrow and Friday) at which they will admit it was all, in he words of grizz, a "misunderstanding' and he'll walk free. So twelve more trips to the nick with food for the felon and that'll be that. Worked out cheaper then the lawyer anyway! Finding the 'anonymous' caller shouldn't be too taxing for them either, we gave "The Force" their name yesterday. Time for a cold one!

Ah, I was hoping you'd say that regular cell visits would continue. Wouldn't want another 'misunderstanding' to happen before he gets cleared. Do the guards take offence to prisoners partaking in a few games of poker and San Mig? I'm sure they'd be happy to join in...

Yup, we'll be there three times a day for the next four days taking food in, due to room service being non-existent. As to guards? Imagine a cage into which they just stuff more and more people. I counted fifteen today. They could all just about sit down, so plenty of room yet. One door, one big lock. What guards? If you have no relatives/friends or they are too poor, they bring in the leftover rice from the coppers' meal and that's it. Had to smile as we were leaving. Madam took a huge amount of food at lunch today and the main door happened to be open as we were going. Fifteen guys shouting "Bye, Ma'am, thank you, See you tomorrow." Only Madam could make friends with a cage load of prisoners inside an hour!

Glad to hear you hopefully have it sorted. I am sure your driver is glad to have good friends such as you and Madam. Obviously not everyone is as lucky.

To be honest, and despite attempting to blow Madam's head clean off, he more family than anything else. I'm not sure how I'd have felt if I had the slightest doubt he was innocent of the accusation, but I have no doubts, so there is no issue! So yeah, you do what you have to do. Well done George - but it does seem scarily random at present..... Could have been worse Phil, they could have used their other modus operandi and just shot him! I suppose when you urge people to dob others in, then you're bound to get some spiteful calls and that seems to be the case here. Must take up a shedload of police time though. It's the lawyer that tee'd me off the most though. I've used him before and he was fine, but to just not turn up at all, well, and avoiding the risk of sending the swear meter apoplectic, lets just say he's probably off speed dial! Still, all's well that ends, etc.

Go on George. See how much gibberish you can get the auto censor function to produce. Tempting isn't it? Anyway, just to give you some geography, this is where we've spent the best part of two days... And as we haven't had any railway news recently, why don't we have a quick catch up? As you'll know, we've been trying to get this here port line built for over two years now and, just for a second, I thought we'd finally succeeded. Now, just to recap, there's new track required that leaves the container terminal, trundles up the middle of a main road and, via a shopping mall, arrives at the main PNR station at Tutuban. From there, we use existing track to get to an inland terminal at Calamba, 50-odd kms south. We have responsibility for supplying the infrastructure at the two terminals and PNR are supposed to build the link up Recto Ave to Tutuban. "Yep, we can do that now. No mither" Hooray! "Standard gauge suit you sir? Mr Duterte says all new lines will be standard (1435mm) rather than metre which currently exists." This means that my train would leave the port, arrive at Tutuban and promptly fall off, due to the rails being too close together. This is not a good thing. So instead of being realistic on this occasion and building just 3km of metre gauge, dogma has allowed the entire project to grind to a halt. That's what comes of making sweeping generalisations rather than actually thinking the issues through. I'm in the process of looking at variable gauge bogies as used a lot in Spain and Japan or the possibility of dual gauge tracks but, to be honest, I think the cost will tip the entire project into the "unfeasible" box. So instead of removing 300,000 truck journeys a year, vastly improving pollution and congestion across Manila, freeing up much needed capacity in the port and making the movement of foreign trade goods far more efficient, we'll keep the status quo. You really do have to wonder. It's more half-witted in the Philippines!

the link up Recto Ave to Tutuban I've got to comment that the line above really sounds like shop talk at an Australian Proctology Convention Perhaps Mr. varelse can comment?

Only Madam could make friends with a cage load of prisoners inside an hour! George's private army by the sounds of it.... Sounds like they've inherited the blatant f***wittery that infests the rail system here, now. How's this: our local TOC has ordered a complete new fleet of trains to replace the 'legacy' stock (that stuff that works reliably because we've knocked the bugs out)from Stadler. They are basically, super trams. Because most of the area isn't electrified, the 'rural' units carry a genset trailer to power them. All fine and dandy so far. Trouble is, no-one actually worked out just how much of the area is wired and how much isn't - so we now have hybrid supertrams with too small fuel tanks to complete the diagram.... errrr.... Oh and no-one thought about storing bulk AdBlu which degenerates onto saltpetre. That could get interesting.....
