Cheers! Although I'd have your mesh wheels from the 262 in a heartbeat On that note, some height adjustment would look ace In other news, this scruffbag landed back at home on Thursday eve: Note primer on rear arches, that's where all this loverly rust was hiding Fixed In summary: Rear sill ends and drivers floor patch morphed into both rear inner arches as well Then the donor engine decided to vomit oil, which had been overfilled to mask a knocking bottom end The old engine was slung back in, bolted up to the 5 speed, but then the PAS pulleys didn't line up. A replacement pulley was obtained and everything now works (fingers crossed!) The brakes pulling to the left was found to be collapsed brake hoses Then the clutch slave let go, so a new one was needed. MOT time! Insecure battery and faulty washer pump sorted and a pass was obtained! FINALLY. I taxed it sunday and used it yesterday and today to get to work, thoroughly enjoying it Sunday was spent applying red oxide to the rear arches as some rust was already bleeding through... I also offered up the front spoiler from the spares car, should work nicely! I've also refitted the old hubcaps which makes quite a difference cosmetically... upcoming jobs (once I've finished painting the kitchen!): Fit front passenger seat Fit rear leather seat (both to clear space in the garage) Start painting replacement panels

That is looking very good indeed...
These old tanks really are getting rare now and to see one looking like this is a good thing.
Keep up the good work...

Love this. 240s are very quickly disappearing, even 2-3 years ago you saw them all the time, now I can't remember when I last saw one

Mini update, I've spent an evening removing the blue from this: to get this: Which was then covered with this: suffice to say I f***ing hate those upholstery clips. Just got to re-clip it and stretch the material where the zips are broken on the free covers. Then the base can get attacked and I can throw the old ones away and free up space in the garage - yay! I've also taken to working in the car park during my lunchbreak. I fitted the passenger seat a week or so ago and Monday's endeavours are shown below: L to R: an air filter, my trusty pool ball knob (had it for 10yrs now on worthy vehicles), cheap crank breather filter, plugs and leads. Last night I also re-jetted the carb with the ones for the 740 application. Only some small size differences, but once I corrected the idle mix and idle speed screws earlier, it now runs without needing the choke and goes noticeably better. Hurrah! In other, less successful, news, I bought some wiiiide 15" steels from datman to fit the rims onto some 145 steels I have. It won't work the 145 centres are 33-34cm diameter, the 8" rims are 32cm inner diameter... My knocking exhaust has resurfaced, going to attempt clamping AND welding this time. The engine mounts are tired causing knocking from underneath and lots of vibes; will get some poly ones I think. I took this to show how less scruffy it looks with the centre caps on, but it looks really scruffy. But anyway - CENTRE CAPS... and a chrome door mirror

It is looking ripe sir...!!!
It may be scruffy but it ain't young and it's getting regular use so that's just how it should be...
Having said that it appears that with every update this car is less scruffy so it can only get better...
Superb...

One of these would look cool sans bumpers with a bit of smoothing...

cheers grifterkid, it's a slow burn, but I'm in it for the long haul. varelse - the 145 has a smoother rear end, this is a bit gaping once the bumper is removed. As for the front, well... I'll take a pic once the bumper is off and you'll probably change your mind! Again, 140s work very well de-bumpered. In fact I wanted one originally, but they're harder to find and this was pitched at my wife as a safe family wagon where the 140 doesn't have 3-point belts etc. Still ticking off jobs so more to follow, I re attached the seat cover yesterday using cable ties instead of the clips - worked very well.

So... graft the smooth butt to it. Nothing like a bit of recorrective surgery.

So... graft the smooth butt to it. Nothing like a bit of recorrective surgery. funnily enough after I wrote the above I went straight out to try and find a 145 valance as for the front, I'd love to graft a 140 front on, but it's serious work (custom inner wings, chassis rail mods and the wheelbase is different so wings would be custom) so I'll leave that for the future!

Haha. Nice! I'm curious to see what the front looks like without the bumper, although a bigger lip could be a way to alter that overbite? I just scrolled up to look at the front more, and then noticed an odd feature in that the rear doors have got some major droop going on along the top? For no reason?

Hoping the spoiler will help the front gawkiness, might slap it on for a trial fit Yes, big design flaw. The doors are common with the saloon, which has a sloping roof. Again a lot of custom work to rectify

Mainly been enjoying this as my daily, but have done a few bits recently, been busying away with the seats. Fitted the rear cushion Thursday, we have full leather! Photos aren't great as it was bright today and using a camera phone. The seats were filthy and took a lot of cleaning... I did take photos along the way, but they don't really do it justice. Had to clean my brush out several times per cover and they changed colour completely! I also gave it a wash today as it was looking pretty grimy. Hoping to get a few hours in this week, want to tick a few things off the list.

Just seen this for the first time. Its flippin great!!! I learned to drive in a very similar one. I hope you keep the bumpers and so on cos the pre-facelift styling is supa rare now and I reckon the cars best feature (along with the brown paint). Has the fuel economy improved since you bought it??

I really like this including the brown which is period poohfect. Are you planning to change colours? I've got such a No.2 brown on my Cruiser and I'm struggling with it a bit. After years in exile it seems that browns are coming back - I've seen a few new Bimmers in brown.
With those new lux seats you got yourself a low riding sofa!

It is always nice to see some work done on a 240. Have you considered swapping to a round headlamp front? On this lower-spec front end, you just need lights and surrounds, the grille can be kept....
