after about....
3 times getting breakdown tows
swearing
5 times totally stripping the carb
swearing
3 times re-adjusting the tappets
more swearing
3 times changing the condensor
kicking the tyres
1 times changing the contact points
calling the car curse word
1 times a new distributor after the above new bits in the old dizzy
getting a nervous breakdown and garaging the car, then missing it after a week and makeing up with it (jesus,.. it sounds like a woman...)
2 times changing all the plugs, HT, LT leads
1 times a new sports coil
20000 times adjusting the needle
And
1 googol times redoing the static timing, (yes googol is a number, its 10 to the power of 100, the biggest number known to hunter and man)
reduced to crying whilst not having the energy to get my head out the engine bay
after all that, it was just the bloody wrong air filter. THE WRONG AIR FILTER ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
yes, well the best I can explain it is that the air filter which I had replaced, was not sealing against the filter box covers leaving a bypass for the engine breather fumes to get straight back into the carb. Never thought in a million years a small bypass would kill an engine that fast…. That was one bloody expensive air filter.
