Hi there It isn't looking like my aunties ORion is going to show up so I would appreciate your views on what sort of value to place on the car. It was totally factory standard, genuine 75000 miles with service history to back it up. It was a C reg, very light blue collar in good / reasonable condition, 12 months MOT. Thanks David

£1500 maybe if it was very nice but you are going to need to argue this one with the insurance. Unless it was an agreed value policy you'll be lucky to get an offer of £400 as its just another old shitter to them, you'll need to amass evidence of what a similar Orion (with the same history and condition) would sell for in todays market to convince them and backup your claim its worth more than their offer. A couple of months ago there was a guy with 3 in his yard/ front garden near Chesterfield and he had one for sale at that sort of price i think.
Have you scoured the back streets and local frag yards and posted on facebook etc, I would have thought it would have turned up burned by now if they were going to dump it quickly because it was easier to nick it for a ride home than get a taxi.

Insurance value should be more than market value really.
Is it a MK1 or MK2? As C-Reg was when they changed over.
If it was a MK2 I'd want and insurance value of £1500-£1800
If a MK1 I'd want £2500 or more
The above assuming very, very good condition.
EDIT: After re-reading your post it looks like the car has been nicked already? That will be harder. I found it surprisingly easy to get a top, top insurance value on a car that needed an agreed value.

It was a mark1 and I would describe it as in good condition, say 7/10
