Model: Cavalier 1.8 CDi hatchback
Year: 1987
Mileage: 131k
Tax: June 14
MOT: Jan 15
Sorry about the naff pictures, they're taken from the advert I bought the car from. I'll get some better ones tomorrow if it stops raining.
My dad bought this car from ebay over Christmas intending to pull the doors and wheels off it for his other CD hatch, but when we got it back and had a proper look it didn't seem too bad. I decided to take it for an MOT and see what happened, still expecting a failure sheet the length of my arm, but it failed on:
1 - front brake imbalance (cured by a new set of pads)
2 - leaky exhaust (cured by a new manifold gasket and a nut and bolt where a stud had snapped off)
3 - fuel pump insecure (cured by some new rubber fuel pump mounts)
So for a day's work (it was raining or it would have been quicker) it ended up with an MOT til next January. It's currently taxed til the end of June as well and in daily use.
The bad:
Sunroof leaks badly, is currently taped up.
One rear wheel is bent, was on the front but I swapped it over to reduce judder through the steering wheel.
Driver's seat has collapsed pretty badly.
Rear quarters are darker in colour, but the darker colour is peeling off and the original colour is still there underneath.
Heater fan works but is noisy.
Front spoiler has been matte blacked for some reason and is peeling.
Front foglights are missing.
Driver's rear outer door handle no longer works, but door still opens from inside.
Central locking doesn't work, driver's door lock looks like someone's had a go but still works on the key.
Rev counter overreads and engine seems to run a bit cool.
Heater doesn't get very hot, think the matrix is sludged up.
Suspension is very firm but not lowered, may have heavy duty springs or something like that.
Basically I'm being fussy but honest. It's not a show winner by a long stretch, it's had a lot of welding in the past but didn't need any for the MOT a few weeks ago. It had a new clutch cable very recently after the original snapped, pedal is now lovely and light. The engine and box are excellent, it pulls like a train and is noticeably quicker than the other supposedly identical one we have. It probably needs a service as I haven't really done much to it since we bought it. It's even got a period Audiolane radio cassette with an aux input on the front, even if the standard speakers are pretty ropey!
I'd like £700 for it as it stands, or £600 without the tax if you want to do it that way. It's in Ammanford, about 10 minutes from the end of the M4 in South Wales. If you're interested PM me for my number!
