I know this has sort of been covered in other threads ,but..... Ive been looking at 2cv adverts .Need a car that I can use as a run around (tescos, kids etc)So that I don't have to take my other car out and get it dirty /wet (I'm not joking ! ;D) Anyways ,i thought one of these beasts may fit the bill,(cheap tax /poss cheap insurance /sunroof!!)BUT they all seem so expensive !!Whats going on with them ? I don't really know what to look for re the dodgy bits anyway! Will I get one mot'd for £500??

you might get one thats MOT'd for that is the answer. They have become a bit sought after in some circles mate, almost have a scene tax on them too now. As mentioned before you should be able to get a dyane for that money but they are rarer and for sale less often than 2CV's A quick scout of the owners club mag this month reveals..........................not one MOT'd car for less than 995. couple of fixers up at 200-500 bracket. Cheapest taxed and tested car is a dyane at 600 quid. Just so you know

Prices seem to be going nuts at the moment, my first 2cv was £10, my second was £500 with 12 months tax and test, then the last one was £1000 (very nice example when I got it) Nowadays a solid and roadworty example will set you back £800-£1000 easy Very good original cars go for around £1800-£3500, complete rebuilds on galvi chassis... well I've seen them from £2500 to £6500!!!!! As for what to look for, check for rot on chassis first (best to go for one with a replacement galvanises chassis), check front floors and bulkhead and VERY importantly rear inner wings for rot. If the car feels stupidly heavy to steer or has large gaps between the front panels then this is usually a first indication that the chassis is sagging and about to go. Aside from that check everything you would on a normal motor and you should be ok.
