Hi
The Marina/Ital club have been working to identify early cars by their VIN numbers (Chassis numbers) taken from the riveted chassis plates - v useful for establishing tax free status etc. and we now have the numbers we need. However the cars also have a body number spot welded to the car and painted over. The numbers on the chassis plate don't match to the numbers on the body plate and aren't used on the DVLA V5. Can any one explain its relevance and shed any light on the sequence of letters and numbers on the body plate? We do get approached by owners that have lost their reg. nos. and chassis plates but still have their body plates, so with the right info we could help them get back on the road.
Anyone?
