Just spotted this E-Type in another thread: I've seen a few photos of it on here from time to time and absolutely love the 'warts an' all' look of it. Anyone know more about its story?

It is truly stunning seeing such a well trodden E Type, when so many of them are so polished they don't look old any more. That photo was taken at the Queens Square classic meet in Bristol, where Mr Holder also spotted it. The series III 2+2 has always been my least favourite E-Type, but there's something magnificently honest about this one. Looks superb! This is the one I'd take home if I could chose Lovely, just lovely to see an E-Type in a used condition!!! Me too. I had spotted it across the square and was working my way around to it, but he left jsut as I was getting near. I grabbed this shot then flagged him down to congratulate him on the car. He told me that nearly everyone had asked him when he was going to be painting it....to which I replied that it would be a crime to lose that patina. It was simply stunning with the flaking and faded paint. I think he was quite relieved that someone else viewed the car the way he did... It's difficult to get to see all the cars because as you work your way around, some leave and others arrive. You look back to where you've just been and there's a load more cars you've missed...but they might not be there when you make it back round again. The one thing I kept telling myself, there will always be a next time.

Really like the look of this E type and I particularly enjoyed seeing it have no problems with the steep hill at the gathering in the retro parking area where a couple of much younger cars (starion and an mx5 iirc) seemed to be struggling

that bonnet looks very much like the paint on my Cortina - only thing the two cars have in common though ;-)

i thought this thread may of been about this- What's going on there then? A deliberately ratted body with ultra-high-gloss clearcoat on it? I've seen them do similar on that Gas Monkey Garage show, but the ginger paint guy always points out that it needs a dulled clearcoat.

The red E type also reminds me of 'that' Aston Martin DB2 (I think?) which I remember seeing somewhere I think this is the one..

The owner is obviously more interested in using it than polishing it. Clean cars look nice. A car that's used will allways look nicer in my eyes. Fair play to the chap.

Don't want to be a paim but the title is doing my nut . A car has patina , its not patina'd . Patinated Funny, I was looking at some of those pics Elwood quoted thinking they looked familiar, then realised some were mine Doh! Original version of the post-produced one, for anyone who cares. And therein lies a tale. When I posted them on another forum I got a PM from someone telling me not to retouch the photos in future because they wanted to see the cars, not me being arty. Funnily enough, I'm not a member of that forum any more... as Jar Jar Binks would say, "how wude"

How cool is that 'Eagles' tape in the 8 track I agree with Rob; the Eagles 8 track makes it go from better to betterer. Or for those who don't no whow to you's apostropy's, it's better'er. As for the rant about the title, I'd better not admit that I'm a teacher and that I'm normally a pedant for mistakes in writing. I'll hold my hands up, but won't be changing it. *Edit: I've changed it.

The car is cool however you spell it ...

My view is that it's cool, provided that "patina" is just the result of 40 years of use, repairs and maintenance.
If it has been made to look like that as part of a restoration in order to look cool, then, in my view again, it is not.

This is not about the cars per se, the best thing about this photograph is watching the next generation of car fan. That right there is a memory photo of the future for the guy's son. "I remember going to shows with Dad when I was a kid, we'd just sit on the bonnet, and watch whilst people loved the car." Awesome. This goes down as one of the best photos I've seen for a while. Cap is being doffed to the person that took it.
