One obvious problem with my newly acquired Marlin Roadster is the lack of seat width. I'm wondering therefore if it might be possible to narrow the tunnel. I can check from underneath how close prop is to the side of the tunnel but don't know how much clearance to allow. Does a prop move side to side much ? I assume it depends on axle location so would a panhard rod help ?
Thanks.

A pahard rod will reduce side to side movement, but still moves in an arc, to get the axle moving straight use a watts linkage, also you will have to look at engine/box movement, as the engine rocks the box will rotate on mounting and move. Personally I would think if you get everything tied down 10mm would be sufficient but check over full range of suspension and gearbox movement, also allow for any balance weights on the prop. If you make tunnel from steel or alloy and removable, if it does touch at all there will be witness marks and you can dress them slightly. Would advise a prop hoop so if anything fails you don't get sliced and diced Ttfn Glenn

Depends really on how well located the engine/transmission and axle are, not hugely relevant to side to side movement but I stumbled across this vid a few years ago showing the back axle moving in an Austin Healey round a track
I did a similar video on my Rover P6, the diff is seemingly solid when pulled and pryed from underneath, but driving on and off load it noticeably rocks fore and aft

Thanks for replies.
No problem keeping existing tunnel height and if I can get away with 1" clearance either side of prop that will allow quite a reduction in tunnel width. My Minor hopped around terribly on tight mini roundabouts so expect the Marina back end to do the same therefore will look into making a Watts Linkage. Already decided to have prop hoops as my legs are bad enough already so don't want them being rearranged (yet again)

Another mod to improve axle location is anti tramp bars, won't help with side to side but will control axle windup so anything that improves location can only help Ttfn Glenn
