I will be removing the Automatic Gearbox oil pan to get at it's internals to free it up! So I thought it might be time to fit a oil drain plug, I was looking at what I could fit without having to weld in a nut(which I would have to find a compatible one) And came across that kits they can easily get in the states(pic below) but when I called my local parts stores they said they don't and wouldn't carry such a kit! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Automatic-Transmission-Oil-Pan-Drain-Plug-Kit-New-gm-ford-chrysler-gmc-/290756631940?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43b2721d84The gearbox oil pan is such that in order to drain it you have to loosen all the bolts and breaking the gasket seal, it is very messy job doing it that way and I don't leave it like that so I have the same situation when I need to change the filter later in the year, and every year after that! So is there a UK seller of these kits or will I have to fork out for the extortionate postage costs from the USA?

Just buy the one on eBay you linked too? Yea, you won't have it by tomorrow but surely it's easiest? Looking at the kit though it'll still leave a lot of oil behind in the sump..

Find someone who can weld (assuming its not alloy) and get them to blob a nut on it, just buy a sump plug from an auto supplies place and find the nut to suit.

Please consider that the box hasn't been used properly for about 3+ years that I had it. Then there is the previous owners use or lack of it!
It has been out in the elements during most of the build, so it will need changing every few months for the first year for that reason alone! Then with this particular gearbox according to the guys in the states say to change it every year or for best maintenance on an old 41te transmission.
Just realised a typo, have change the has to hasn't

Real Steel, they are about 8 quid. To be honest I normally weld mine in but you don't need to. It does leave some fluid in the pan but you can drain most of it and then break the gasket, rather than breaking the gasket with the box full and attempting to catch the tidal wave of oil that results........

Hi, most sump plug bosses inside the pan have a hole drilled through the side close to the bottom of the pan to ensure a complete drain. However they usually block up with shi..rubbish and are not immediately obvious.

The picture below should tell you how much I would be able to drain out with a drain plug fitted! When I had the pan off for painting hanging from the back fixing holes, which shows enough apace for the drain plug.

I had a bit of a mishap while out doing errands and didn't get to go looking for suitable parts to use as a drain plug kit for the gearbox oil pan! So as I was off my feet and unable to get out and about, I went internet hunting for the best deal on a suitable kit. I found a suitable one on the bay of E at for USA $3.99(GB£2.41)for the kit and USA $16.75 (GB£10.11) USPS First Class Package International Service. It's currently in a sorting facility in Miami. I don't know why these kits aren't readily available over here in the UK? I did a bit of looking through the ebay store I bought it from and he seams to have things at reasonable prices and shipping/postage, so I will be using them again. stores.ebay.co.uk/wardsautosupply?_trksid=p2047675.l2563
