so, as i have a new job at a Renault dealership and a boss, which is also into old cars i am thinking of buying a classic renault (he wants me to drive Renault, so i think an old one would be a good excuse why not to buy a brand new one ;D ). The problem is, a "classic" Renault in germany is a 92 Clio or an 89 19.... I am looking more into the seventies or eighties, so my idea was a 12 or 18 wagon.... i think the chance to buy one in france is a better idea , than the last one i saw on ebay : that was in Australia, though it was not expensive.... so, turning a 12 into something like this : wouldn't be a bad idea ? Any suggestions ? (must be road legal in germany, so no banded wheels, chopped roofs, no Hayabusa engine mounted in the middle of the car etc . )

Not much help here, but just interested in what you can and can't do in modding terms in Germany? This one lives in my road along with a saloon.

well, you can do quite a lot, but almost each modification must be reported into the papers of the car (this doesn't effect the insurance !), but body modifications like a roof chop are hard to get road legal.... also, you can not put each size of wheels/tyres on a car, engine conversions are possible but can be expensive to get in the papers... so lowering is fine, different wheels, too ... also, if the car has no catalytic converter, the road tax can be expensive. Getting a classic plate (with an H as the last digit on the plate, with a low road tax) is only possible, if the modifications are not to extreme. In the UK a lot more things are possible... for an H-plate the car must be at least 30 years old, the red 07 plates used to be for cars 20 and older, new legislation since march now 30 years....

How cool would one of these be? With absolutely nothing done to it except a few 'period' accessories

wow... some good suggestions; Fuego or 15/17 would be fine, too. I think i have to buy abroad, and i don't mind a RHD car.... should i ? The Fuego was a bargain... this comes to my mind, too : also love the R20/30, but too hard to get....
