Very retro and fast becoming rare, this example remains in original condition and has covered just 36,000 miles. Since being purchased from the original owners, the Sierra has been my winter runabout. It had previously been kept in the same ownership these past 20 years or so - the last owner was in their late 80’s who was forced to give up driving due to an eye infection.
This is a very original, unmolested car. Climbing aboard its perfect right down to original period head unit. The interior is the usual Ghia spec of the period, with acres of luxury velour and deep pile carpets. Apart from two small marks on the driver’s seat, the interior, be it carpet, seats, or headlining remains in very good condition. The rear seats have rarely been sat in. The exterior is pretty much the same story, although there are some marks/scuffs as you would expect from a car of this age, nothing detracts from its overall appearance. All four tyres have a decent amount of tread remaining and look good for many '000 miles yet. The spare tyre (with alloy) is present with the tools in place.
We have all the original Ford books present including the Sierra owner’s handbook, fully stamped service log, audio booklet, Ford RAC booklet and dealer guide. It would appear that the last owner had the car looked after by Ford themselves during the warranty period, but after that reverted to a trusted local independent mechanic, the service booklet was stamped up until there was no more room remaining and anything the car has wanted for nothing. The Sierra has been serviced annually regardless of the mileage covered in between each service with the last one having been carried out in April 2013 at 35,200 miles. All fluids are clean and upto the correct levels. The underside has been sprayed with oil on all services and it has never had any welding.
Condition wise, the car is not perfect, it has been used and enjoyed, but would make a solid base for someone planning to make an excellent example. These cars are simple to work on with no electrical trickery and it can be insured on cheaper classic car insurance.
These cars are quickly becoming seriously thin on the ground. It would suit an enthusiast wishing to restore the car too its former glory or just someone looking for a retro & interesting car from a bygone era.
Car is in Edinburgh.
