For sale is my beautiful 1996 R129 Mercedes SL280, its the face lift model with the updated body and interior, ive had this car for a little over 8 months, its a car I anted when i was a kid, and now ive had one so i need to move onto the next on the list!

Exterior
The body of this car is in excelent condition, when i got the car there wasa little crack in the front bumper, this has been repaired and the bumper repainted to a very high standard by a proffesional bodyshop. There is the odd mark here and there, but this car really has to be seen to be appreciated.
The car is supplied with the desirable detachable hard top, not all SL's have these and they make all the difference in cold weather. The electric locking mechanism for the hardtop is in perfect working order, and was serviced by my local Mercedes specalist in August of last year, with receipt to prove.
The electric hood is also in excelent condiion and in perfect working order. Shortly after I purchased the car i noticed the hood sometimes didnt operate correctly, i had a diagnostic check carried out and as a result the front offside latch was replaced, allong with the near side electric window regulator, again with a receipt to prove from a Mrcedes Specalist. The plastic rear winow in the hood is a little clowdy, but its intact and if your anything like me the hood is onlu used in an emergency, as it is usually down, or the hard top is on.
The car is fited with 18 Inch AMG wheels, thee really set the car off a treat, again when i got the car there was a little paint damage, so i had them refurbished with the dark centres, and silver lips, i think they make the car look much younger than it is, the tyres are all in excelent condition, i have a report from a tyre centre after i had the wheels balanced showing they all have at least 5mm of tread all the way across.
Engine and Running Gear
The car has done way below average miles for its year however Shortly after i got the car i noticed that it was drippig a little bit of oil onto my drive, I took it to the mechanic for investigation and he found that it was weepng oil from the front left coner of the head gasket, rather than wait for the gasket to fail completly i had him replace it. This involved stripping the top end of the engine, having the head skimmed, and replaceing all the valve stem oil seals. It ws then reassembled with all new gaskets, seals and head bolts. In addition to this anything that was removed to gt the head off was replaced, so it has new timing chain tensioners, auxillary belts, exhaust manifold studs, filters and spark plugs ect, in total this work cost over a thousand pounds, but the engine is in tip top health shows perfect oil pressure and is as smooth as when it was new!
The only other mchanical work i have carried out was to fit new front brake discs and pads, and new pads to the rear just before the MOT. I have also replaced the steering rack damper as the old unit was worn, again there are receipts for all this work.
Interior
The mercedes has a Black leather interior with black carpets, it makes a nice change as they usually all have creme or beige! the standard equipment fitted to this car includes, Electric Windows and Mirrors, Electric seats and seatbelt height adjustment, electric Roll Bar, Climate Control, Cruse Control, all the equipment works as it should, the A/C is ice cold, and the Cruse control makes it relaxing and eccnomical on a long motorway journey. It is also fited with the Rear Seat option, i believe this was very expensive when new and not all SLs have them, the seats are fitted with lap belts and are ideal for children, or very short adults! The leather seats are in excelent condition, there is a slight scuff on the drivers bolster as usual, but if i get chance i will redye and feed the seats. There is however a tear in the leather on the steering wheel, i have been quoted £70 to fix this my a local trimmer, and if I don't sel the car this will be the next job i attend too. There is also a Sony CD/MP3 Player with a AUX input in the centre consle for an MP3 player.
So thats it really this really is a lovely car, and if i didnt have to keep working my way down my List of cars to own i would keep it!
