Slowly working my way through the minor niggles on my 924, one of which is the clock isn't working. The PO told me he had disconnected it to prevent battery drain whilst the car was laid up. Anyway after sorting other issues such as blown dash bulbs, missing earths etc, thought I'd reconnect the clock...but it already was!... All the wiring is connected and complete and a multimeter is showing a constant 12.4v permanently. So my question is can the clock be repaired? What to check? Or just get a s/h one off ebay?

I'd buy another second hand one...save all the hassle.

my curiosity would have me take the clock apart anyway...if you can fix it easily (like a broken wire or solder joint from inside the housing), then bonus...if not go second hand...

There's a reasonable chance it's a dry solder joint or corroded contact or something, although if the previous owner said it was flattening the battery then there's a reasonable chance that a transistor has failed short, keeping the coil on all the time or something. Get a little magnifier out and look round all the solder joints for stuff like this:
