Hi, for reluctant sale is my 1982 Ford Granada MK2 2.3GL Auto. It is in Champagne gold with a fawn fabric interior.
To give a better idea of its condition, I'll tell its history in brief.
I bought it from my friends retired grandfather, who had owned it from new, back in 1993 at which time it had 37,000 miles on the clock. He had unfortunately been diagnosed with Altzheimers disease and had to give up driving about a year before I bought it.
I was mostly using my Transit van for work at the time and the Granada got very little use, being reserved mostly for 'special occasions'. It is still in very original condition, except that I have fitted a set of the large metric 2.8 Injection wheels and tyres, but I still have the original similar looking 14" versions.
About ten years ago I had the idea to use it as a period towcar to pull a trailer for one of my other cars with, and I bought a complete very low mileage damaged 2.9 manual Ghia MK3 Scorpio that I thought would make the MK2 more suitable for this purpose after an engine and gearbox swap. It would have been a shame to have swapped out the original engine and gearbox though.
After getting the RWD Transit and trailer stuck in muddy fields a couple of times though, and once needing towed out with a tractor, it dawned on me that the Granada would be equally as bad for this and I bought a LWB 2.8 turbodiesel Shogun instead. I didn't even get around to fitting the towbar that I bought for the car.
Since then the Granada has barely turned a wheel. I used to start it and drive it around a bit just to keep it moving but I haven't even done that in a while. It has been sorned for a number of years now and hasn't had an MOT in that time either.
It currently has 44,000 odd miles on the clock which gives a good indication of how little I've used it in the 20 years that I've owned it!
I'd like to have kept the car, but sitting doing nothing is allowing it to deteriorate. What time I have is tied up with other projects, and I probably don't have enough time left on this planet to get around to restoring the Granada.
Good Points:-
It is a very original low mileage car that has been well looked after for much of its life.
Mechanically it should still be in very good shape with very minimal real wear.
I personally waxoyled most of the car and treated the under wing areas etc with waxoyl underseal not long after I first got the car.
The seats etc are still immaculate.
The bodywork and structure is generally very good and sound.
It comes with a considerable quantity of spare parts. (I had bought and broken a 'spares car' at one point)
It drives very nicely, better than many 'top end' cars of less than 1/3 its age.
Bad Points:-
It starts and drives, but isn't currently roadworthy or legal and would need trailering away. It would need its brake parts cleaned up/ overhauled at least having now sat for so long unused.
The front edge of the bonnet is completely knackered, but I have another excelent condition bonnet for it in the wrong shade of gold. (Olympic Gold)
There are a couple small areas of corrosion that need dealing with, one below the offside rear corner of the rear screen and another near the top edge of the offside rear wheel arch. Very minor repairs, but dealing with the former without removing the rear screen could be tricky. There are also now the first signs of corrosion on the fronmt and rear valances, but fairly minor.
There is a corrosion hole about the size of a 50p piece next to the heater under the bonnet that has unfortunately let water inside the car before I noticed it. I temporarily sealed the rear edge of the bonnet with tape to prevent this, but some water had got in. The actual repair needed here is very minimal, but it could take a fair bit of stripping out to be able to weld it without any risk of burning or damage...possibly a dash-out job. Condensation inside the car due to this has made the door cards lift a bit near to the windows and there is some moss on the carpet in the front passenger footwell, but nothing that couldn't be cleaned up and saved.
For some reason there is now some bubbling/ cratering of the paint on the skin of the metal sunroof. This is only cosmetic and restricted to the sliding sunroof itself.
One of the headlights has some minor corrosion on its reflector, but there are some good spare headlights amongst the spares.
A while back a local cat took to sitting on the car in the summer sun which has left the laquer coat on the top sides covered in tiny scratches...... I could have strangled it. Overall the car could do with a full respray after any renovation works are carried out.
This car isn't ready for putting straight back on the road by any means, but for anyone looking for a half decent example to renovate that only needs a limited amount of work and minimal welding it could be a very good opportunity.
Going along with it are all of the spares that I've accumulated for it over the years, including a full spare stainless steel exhaust system.
I also still have the 2.9 Cologne V6 and MT75 manual gearbox, propshaft, ECU and loom etc, and even what was a brand new exhaust system front half at the time that will be for sale separately if anyone fancies the conversion that I didn't get around to.
I'd rather the car went to someone who wants to restore it to its former glory, or at least to use it as a road car in some form. These tended to be bought for use in Demolition Derbies in the past and I'd hate that to happen to it........ it isn't just about selling it on to me.
A couple of pics...
As can be seen here I now really need the space to finish slabbing at the side of my garage.
For the car and all of the spares that I have for it.... too much to list and in honesty I'm not sure exactly all what is there, I am looking for £500 or near offer. To think that I paid more than six times that and have done about 7000 miles in it in total!
If anyone is interested, would like more details or wants to make an offer, I can either be contacted via message or pm here or on 07801 826010.
