Even as someone that believes some cars are perfect and you can only go backwards when changing stuff...of which the F40 is a case in point...I still like their car and the motor mods was a move forward (Check Monkey hoonong one and you are guaranteed goose bumps...and this one is a step up from the one he had to mess with...yikes). Bit disappointed that they had the whole HRE catalogue, which has utterly AMAZING wheels, and they slap on a set of basic 5 spokers ...... I know they are lightweight center mount blah blah blah...but seriously, you go I don't care what the world thinks and stick a shopping list on the door, color change etc etc, and then you woos out when you choose funky wheels
Faux pas for me on this though is the decision to stick on those horribly ugly LED spotlight curse word that makes it look like a kitcar.....the only real step back from what s still a car that is off the charts on the desirability scale.

It looks good, apart from the LED lights - a pair of projectors on each side would have possibly looked better. However, after watching the episodes over Christmas where it was rebuilt. I'm not sure I'd feel too happy exploring the limits of it's handling on a track though. The chassis was pretty badly damaged and was jigged back into shape based on measurements the garage doing the rebuild (most of the work wasn't actually done by the GMG guys) took from another F40. When they came to reassemble it only 3 of the 4 engine and transaxle mounts lined up, the other was out by 1/4" so they just cut it off and rewelded it. When they came to bolt in the pedal box the brake light switch wouldn't clear the front bulkhead, so they hammered a dent into it to make it fit. Still, given it was probably too far gone to be economically restored to original condition (it probably needed a complete chassis replacement - it's a handbuilt steel spaceframe with bonded carbon/kevlar reinforcement sections, so not cheap) it was probably better that it was rebuilt and back on the road than being broken up for parts. There is a thread on the FerrariChat forum about it, and it certainly divided opinion, though not all because of the looks - unofficial pictures of the car appeared between the two episodes being aired. Once the second part was shown and they saw the quality of the chassis repair work and paint job then things certainly took more of a negative turn though. There is some interesting posts from people who were involved with the build behind the scenes as well. |

Thanks! Well, if it's that badly restored and unloved in the F40 scene - I guess a potential buyer will know. My bet is: sub-400k  Re: LED lights; I think they give it a bit of a Le mans 24h prototype look, I sort of like that! |

I've just watched the first part... Ugh - so this is a car show where they show more of the unimportant money waving car dudes than the cars? I've not missed much by not owning a TV  But interessting to see the few short glimpses of the F40 chassis. Pretty messed up. |

Ferrari already did that with the F40 LMs that used to race in the BPR Global GT Series and it's successor FIA GT1 (which included Le Mans) in the 90s:   On the subject of modified F40s, Simpson Motorsport here in the UK took an ex-FIA GT1 F40 LM and replaced the twin-turbo V8 with the V12 from a 550 Maranello to race in the British GT and BritCar Championships in the mid-2000s. It wasn't particularly successful though, and apparently it's original twin turbo V8 is back in it now. They have also rebuilt a written--off F40 to LM-spec for a customer:    |

You weren't far off - it sold at the auction last weekend for $675,000 (to the baseball player Reggie Jackson) Reggie Jackson buys Gas Monkey F40Considering they were expecting it to go for around a million dollars it looks like GMG's bad luck with auctions struck again. It looks like they got rid of the LED lights and put projector units in too:  |
