Apologies to mods if this is in the wrong section. But i couldn't work out the best place for my request. I am after a monitor stand for my desk and have tried to create something from wood today. Its no work of art, and in fact is quite rubbish. Ideally I would want something like this: I have been watching these on Ebay and need one around 70CMs wide in order to get a docking station underneath and around 10cms high. These go for mad money on Ebay - around £35. Does anyone reading work with Acrylic sheeting and wouldnt mind knocking up something like this? Once again - apologies to mods.

What I do is go to various stores (Ikea, Wilkinsons, Tesco etc) and look at things with a view to how they can be modified. A storage box made out of wood, plastic or metal could easily be adaptable to the design you want if turned upside down and front cut out.

Please do speak to them and let know if they can help. They can help but want to know whether you want a monitor stand lovingly made by trained craftsmen to EU standards in a non-sweatshop environment or from the Far East (I showed them a picture on Evilbay)? From them 1 off = £50, 100 off £25 each and on Ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ACRYLIC-MONITOR-STAND-CLEAR-PERSPEX-PLINTH-MONITOR-SCREEN-RISER-SHELF-/261365436464) £16.99 delivered.

Hi, If anyone (North East / NE23) wants some commercial perspex cheap to experiment with, PM me £5 for a big piece / cheap bulk buy? 6mm Perspex, a joblot of off-cuts from 6x8 sheets (Bus shelter material ), tough as heck, cuts easy, moulds with heat. Lots of bits, for scale the long strips in the pic are approx 8ft x 1ft PM with what you need. i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh36/Nomad_Geordie/6mm_polycarb_KGrHqIOKp0E3uZ2ByBODb8kM0Q0_3.jpgAll 6mm : short strips 6" x 36" qty approx 12 long (very long ) strips, approx 10" x 8' (8 foot long ), qty 15 have fun

Acrylic isn't exactly very cheap, but I should be able to come up with something for you? Post up some details, maybe a few sketches with dimensions and I'm sure I can sort you something out....

The bits I had were leftovers from a joblot I got, they all went / got used last year. Advice : Look for local blacksmith, ask if they repair bus shelters (and have perspex off-cuts ) For boxes, look on you-tube. I saw a super-simple way - use a router to cut grooves in a square sheet (ie draw a O's & X's board, and route the lines, throw away the 4 corners then just fold up the 4 sides )
