Hi All,
I'm new to the forum and have a first timers question...
I'm looking at buying a VW Sirocco MK2 as far as I'm aware the largest standard engine size was a 1.8 however the one I'm looking at is advertised as a 2.0. All the paper work reflects this however the current owner is adamant it's never had an engine transplant. Did VW do a run of 2.0l GTI siroccos?
Thanks, Dave

There were no OE 2.0 Golf derived (Golf, Jetta, Scirocco) cars until the mk3 in 1992. The Scirocco mk2 is still on the mk1 Golf platform so would certainly be 1.8 as standard (if a late one - early 1.6 GT's were 1.6 IIRC). Can you find any numbers/letters on the block? Numerous 8v bottom ends from that era can be fitted to 1.8 heads. Or...are there any plates in the engine bay (such as a GTI engineering one) that would suggest fitment of a 2.0 at some point in the past? Welcome to the best automotive forum on the planet, BTW.

Your opinion is invalid, I've seen your wife.

Check the engine number and log book . He could be thick and think its a 2 litre or it might have been changed for a mk3 golf 2 litre [ probably as a cheap replacement] .

Buy it ... . The 1.8 pulls strong
And if it does turn out to be the only one ever built . Happy days ..

Awesome, thanks for the responses. Didn't think they did a 2.0 model but thought it was worth checking. I can't get to the car until the 25th but when I do I'll be sure to get a good look under the hood.
