You wont need an uprated clutch just go with an 1800 flywheel and clutch shouldn't be too heavy.
Have you thought about using the 6 speed box from the Mx5 mk2 (£180 to £250)it will give your car decent crusing speed and will save a mint on petrol and its a straight bolt on.
If you want any advice on ITB,S/charger or Turbo builds Mx5 Nutz is afriendly website and there are a number of converted cars (mainly Spits and Heralds) on there so you are not alone.
If you need mx5 bits try Junkyard Dog in Swadlincote again he is contactable on Nutz.

[quote author=" 7M.elody" source="/post/1946386/thread" timestamp="1401045765" In fact these ones are very exclusive as the gent who bought them from wolfrace had to have a set specially drilled in 5x114.3 as it not a stud pattern they usually do![/quote] Seriously? 5x114.3 is a standard Ford PCD (5x4.5"), that's also used by Nissan and Toyota as well (you should know this as you used to have a Supra). For a company not to produce slot mags or jellybeans in that stud pattern seems quite odd.

Yeah I know that. I didn't question what the seller told me but it sort of makes sense, most Japanese cars with 5 stud are big cars that take 17" or bigger wheels and I'm pretty sure they don't make the slot mag that big so why would they keep a stock of wheels drilled in that pattern? I dunno if they would for the old fords, maybe in the US. When I was searching for wheels, particularly new, there was next to nothing retro looking in that stud pattern hence I believed what he said. Not saying your wrong, I just was repeating what I was told

Looks good, don't suppose the mx5 has still got its driveshafts?
If you are replacing the clutch get an1800 flywheel and clutch they bolt straight on and give you a bit more meat if you want to do any power upgrades.

A small update from last night. I spread the wiring loom out on the floor and cut out all the unnecessary plugs, I need a wiring diagram before I can continue as there are the odd few wires that I don't know what they are for but once there all off I'll unwrap it all pull out all the cut ones and re wrap it to make it a bit skinnier We've had an idea for mounting all the fuse boxes ect too. The plan is to remove the heater matrix (not working anyway) and mount the fuse boxes where that used to sit on the bulkhead. This will leave the wings free of wiring. The old wiring for the lights ect will be run inside the arch to clean it up further and I'll safely wrap all the old engine wiring out the way so this all can be reversed if I ever get rid of the car. Here is a picture of the loom and the pile of chopped off bits My new clutch has arrived also Oh and I should mention I'm going to replace the heater matrix with a mini one seeing as that lives under the dash and I have loads of room there seeing as the gearleaver is moving!

When I took my loom (looms!!!) out I labelled everything. I had near 80 components. Not fun! I've reached the point where I just (!) have to do all the earths now.
I've got about 250mb of PDF manuals on MX5's now. Let me know what kind of thing you want, your car year and your e-mail address and I'll send them on to you. Wiring diagrams are between 1mb and 4mb. They've been invaluable but they're also quite wibblepoo and throw up lots of questions on a regular basis.

We've had a busy evening stripping the engine bay tonight, the brake valve needs to move as it will foul the engine but its just going to move up a little and the fuel line needs to move to the other side of the engine bay. Plenty of space has been gained by removing the heater box, that will be where the fuse boxes sit with some sort of lid over them. The wiring will come out of the hole where the coil used to sit and a new hole that will mirror that one. The throttle pedal is useless I can't see how it will be able to pull a cable so I think i will have to nab the one out the mx5, luckily it's not gone yet Once all the cutting and welding is done I'll give it a good clean and some fresh paint! The only other thing is that the transmission tunnel looks tiny! Although I don't think it will be anything a big hammer can't fix Here are a couple of piccies Plans for tomorrow evening are to start cutting away the front panel to make room for the rad, drill out the plates that hold the engine mounts ready to move them to the other side of the cross member, get the speedo cables posted off to have the new one made and I dunno what else we'll see how it goes. It's good to have some progress!

Good work! Are you going to strip the engine bay back to bare metal? Seems a shame not to do a proper rustproofing job whilst you have best access. I know it will cost time though.....

Not the whole thing, where there's surface rust I'll take it back but it would take too long to do the lot! Overall it's surprisingly solid, a bit of a patchwork quilt but I think it adds character

I ended up painting the engine last night instead of anything else, it all needs doing . Looking pretty shiney now. I just need to paint the block and head red and it'll be in the same color scheme as the original! Its hammered black, I thought it would give it an older look!

Going to look nice. What paint did you use? I was tempted to do mine straight away but knew I'd chip it whilst I'm working on it. It's a lovely shade of dirty hand now.

So tonight's job was to get the engine running. The theory being if there are any issues it will be much easier to sort out the car, once we know it runs on the slimline loom it will be nice and easy once it's all fitted. We got as far as having it turning over but no spark yet. It's been narrowed down to no positive feed to the igniter! Not sure of the cause yet but we'll be sitting down with a diagram and an electrically minded friend on Thursday to figure it out Here she is! Sorry Video Gone Its been decided to used the mx5 tank as long as it's not so much of an odd shape it won't fit, just because I will save a lot on pumps and swirl pots and it will make life a bit easier.

Its been decided to used the mx5 tank as long as it's not so much of an odd shape it won't fit, just because I will save a lot on pumps and swirl pots and it will make life a bit easier. Be really careful starting it like that. I can't see how well you've got it supported so sorry if that sounds harsh. They really do kick when they fire and if it struggles and it misses so it isn't balanced it'll get thrown around. When mine wouldn't start the other night the only way to describe it is as a cartoon where a swimmer gets caught and thrown around by a shark. Did you have the Mazda lump running before hand? Mines failed three times. Once was because I fiddled with the throttle sensor to try and cure rough running which turned out to be the new alternator I fitted. The second time it simply wouldn't start so started checking all the ECU readings one-by-one and when it got to checking the cranking voltage it fire up on its own! And then the other night it was becasue there wasn't enough petrol and it had a big air lock which resulted in the fuel lines doing a killer burp. This may help you as well; www.miata.net/garage/Engine_Diagnostics.html
