EXTERIOR
Finished in RS Olympic Blue, (Code E) this genuine RS2000 is outstanding. Impeccable detailing extending to the underside and engine bay will please the most critical of owners and onlookers. AVO workmanship is laid bare for all to see. The chrome, rubbers, and badges are in immaculate order with the distinctive wide decals adding the perfect RS look as delivered by the Ford RS Dealer in 1974. Tiny scratches to the driver side window, minute markings to the original wiper arms and a barely noticeable join on the bonnet decal do not dampen the ‘wow’ factor this example offers. Such is the reaction this RS generates that when on display at the 2013 NEC Classic Car Show crowd barriers were erected to prevent eager onlookers accidently damaging the pristine paint!
INTERIOR
True and exact in every respect to a Ford RS2000 interior with incredible attention to detail. The brushed nylon RS sports seats with optional headrests and button RS logos match a spotless loop pile carpet throughout and unmarked door cards. The rare Kienzle clock housed within the optional RS centre console joins all the other fully operational sports instrumentation providing at a glance concise information. Only the Ford LW/MW radio does not work. The boot area continues the showroom experience with a refurbished Ford jack painted in the correct blue and neatly wrapped in the hessian bag resting on an impossible to source genuine unmarked boot mat. One for the RS connoisseur.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Prepare for gasps of amazement as onlookers marvel under the bonnet of this Escort RS2000. The 2.0 Ford ‘Pinto’ unit offers ample performance thanks to a downdraught compound twin-choke Weber carburettor and a free-flow exhaust manifold so 100bhp and 0-60mph in 9.0 seconds with a top speed of 108mph is possible. The single selector rail shift four speed synchromesh gearbox offers short, positive snappy gear changes and is a delight to use.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Immaculate and highly sought after 5.5” steel sports road wheels with the correct two tone scheme, the inner circumference being pearl grey (Code XSC695). Matching new 175/70 R13 Pirelli P300 tyres complete the package. An unused spare is strapped and angled in the boot with chalk marks on the tyre. The direct acting vacuum servo assistance dual-line braking system has been slightly enhanced with vented front discs to offer safe stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
Built at Fords Advanced Vehicle Operations factory in Aveley in February 1974 this vehicle is one of 3,759 genuine AVO RS2000’s built for the UK market of which only a fraction are now recorded at the AVO register, this being one of them. With only eight former keepers this example was fully rebuilt over a two year period from 2009 to 2011 at considerable expense and still looks factory fresh having been completely pampered since. A photographic catalogue of the restoration will help reveal the level of care and attention lavished on this RS to the new owner. Recently one of the star attractions at the 2013 NEC Classic Car Show held between the 15th-17th November.
The original owner literature including the Escort Owner’s Handbook and even an Advanced Vehicle Operations Price Guide from 1974 is included in the history file. Various invoices, MOT certificates and spare keys are included. Interesting literature for Ford RS collectors, including the sought after HAVOC Limited Edition publication (0528/1000) is also presented with the car.
