Hi guys,
Today I've completely replaced the clutch hydraulics on my Austin 1100 and it's still not working! Before there was no external leak, but now there is! The leak is at the union of the flexible hose and the slave cylinder...and it's leaking quite badly! Is there any way to stop this leak? Both the cylinder and the pipe are brand new!
Any insight would be great!

sure you have the right pipe for the cylinder? they might have changed it half way through production or somethign silly like that.
What type of connection is it? banjo/tapered seat, male/female? sure you don't need a copper washer on there?

There should be a copper washer on those. If that is intact, try some PTFE tape on the threads before assembly.

Copper washer is present. AFAIK the hose and cylinder are a perfect match, both brand new mini items. May have to try ptfe...

you should have no problem with copper washer arangement,
make sure the washer is new clean and all surfaces too.

is it a banjo connection? IIRC thats what they have, there should be two copper washers one either side of the banjo pipe

I might be wrong here but I think normal ptfe tape dissolves with brake/clutch fluid so take car.

is it a banjo connection? IIRC thats what they have, there should be two copper washers one either side of the banjo pipe Forgive my ignorance on this, but what is a banjo connection? The connection is basically a long thread on the end of the pipe which screws into the cylinder. When I took it off it had a brass washer (just one), and thats apparently what it should have:

ahh theres two types of pipe shown there, the type you have circled and a banjo type, the type you have may be bottoming out, so feel tight before its clamping the washer, try using two copper/brass washers to pack it out a bit

I've reverted to the old slave cylinder and there doesn't seem to be any exterior leak now! The slave looks fairly new anyway, just the master looked pretty old, so hopefully that was where the problem originally was. I have no idea why the new slave was leaking from that union unless the hole wasn't deep enough (as you said madmart, or rather the thread was too long for this particular cylinder). If the circuit fails again with no leaks, I'll know it's the slave and I'll use a repair kit rather than replacing it! Cheers for your help guys!!
