Tax and MoT till March
Buy it, drive till end of March, scrap it and get most of your money back - no brainer if you need a reliable winter hack!
Alternatively get the sills patched up in March and keep using it.
What can I say? (Edited as I was a bit mean to the old girl)
Reliable, dull, it won't win any concourse competitions, the outer sills are rusty and it has a few dents and scratches but it'll get you where you need to go!
Bad points!
Sills are flakey and holey but it only seems to be the outer sills so an mot-spec repair patch on both sides would sort it if you wanted to get it through it's test in March. Must be a Xsara thing as the floor is solid and there's no rust anywhere except for the outer sills.
The heater switch is broken but has had a replacement fitted inside the glovebox (yes) and 60% of the time, it works every time, probably just a loose connection in the new switch but not looked.
The exhaust is slightly blowing somewhere.
The tyres are old.
Headlight bulb just gone.
Cigar lighter broken.
Good points!
Fully road legal until March, drive away today!
Strong clutch
Comfy velour seats.
Electric windows
A/C
Power steering
Power locks
Can easily accommodate a large Christmas tree/Ikea flat pack furniture.
Air bags
Steering wheel controls for stereo
CD changer
Excellent sound system
Rain sensing wipers (I know!)
Surprisingly rapid!
I've been commuting over 2 hours a day in this and it hasn't missed a beat. It's as dull as dishwater though.
You could be the new owner of this rather dull but reliable Xsara VTR by simply handing me cash to the sum of £350ono
