Right, basically, after seeing Mr. Huxley's Volvo; ..I want to do something similar with my Merc; ...OBVIOUSLY nowhere near as much fabrication, power, or money thrown towards it, but you get the idea. Now, i know where there's a diesel manual box...will it fit onto the 2.3 petrol engine? And also, what else will i need? Just a clutch, flywheel, pedal box, and gearbox? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers!

Hi! Assuming it's a 230T E? Resp. the 2.3 injection engine with 136HP, not the old carburetted 109HP engine? In that case the gearbox will not fit. Starter is on the wrong side. You need one for the 200 (109HP)/230E (136HP) crossflow M102 engine from '80 on You'll need: - gearbox (obviously) - flywheel/clutch w. fritction plate that fits the gearbox (two sorts of splines used) - pedal box w. clutch master - prop shaft (longer f. 4spd. manual) - piece of brake fluid resistant hose for feeding clutch master - bit of brake pipe from clutch master to slave cylinder - shifter box & linkages - bit of wiring for reverse light & ignition (ignition inhibition switch on auto box) - pilot bearing for crankshaft/gearbox input shaft That's all I can think of right now... I have a manual 4spd. kit here for 230E/TE inkl. prop shaft, but postage over the channel would be a killer I guess... And I'm not 100% sure about the gearbox's condition, input shaft has a lot of play. I think you best bet is to find a complete car at a scrap yard orsomething and take out all the required pieces at once. Geting them each individually will probably end up a long, twisted pain in the a§§ The gearboxes all have a different lenght, so each requires a fitting prop shaft. Well depends... I'd have a look at a breaker's - the 4spds are not exactely sought after, neither do they break. So they'r quite cheap and the 230E/TE is the most common W123 anyway - chances to get the stuff cheap are good It's just a lot of spannering.

om606 is just epic: bsr racingBut for a budget build get hold of a w124 e320, then swap the engine, box, wiring, ect into yours. Would still be an auto, but it would shift well.
