long story behind this, but landed in august this year on a to truck all the way from Kent. bought as non runner. i had a fair idea of what it needed after viewing the car early in the year. got these 16 x 8J sport Lattice wheels to go on it, juts need a couple of tyres. DBC4771XE started resto, famous failure on the 6.0, burnt out rotor arm. £10 to replace and only one problematic HT lead. replaced them anyway to make sure. i missing tail pipe finisher original wheels, 15" "Radials". no tyres though, so not sure whether to fit them later or not. will see. some extra leather on these later DD6, rear parcel shelf and quarter light trims aerial stripped/ cleaned and works now fitted heated front screen panel, ready for when the screen will be changed at some point. so with the ignition parts, finally running well again (video). note the fast idle when code of 1000rpm. settles to 700rpm at 1/4 way to warm/ normal finally got around to actually driving it last week!! really needs the new wheels and tyres on it! no grip in the wet! will be a nice car when its done, but it wont be anytime soon. so what do you reckon guys?

159k on the clock. needs a fair amount of work as usual for my cars, and as you would expect from a 20yr old jag with high miles. mainly rust and bodywork stuff, generally tidying, leather treatment. it has very soft "autolux" leather. feels nice, but wears not all that great. but it snot ripped, so can be dyed back. think brakes will be need some work now, as they felt like they were sticking. and full service basically.

Absolutely love that! Excellent paint/engine combo, looks great.
Have been looking at Jaguars again recently as my daily commute is very short so fuel consumption isn't an issue. I prefer the XJ40 for looks but X300s are so well priced too.

It takes a brave (or very knowledgeable) man to take on a non running V12 Jag/Daimler. I've never seen one with black leather, nice looking thing.

Well lets just say I did my research before taking the plunge, so I guess am not that stupid. As it turns out the actual faulty part was only £10, ie the rotor arm. But I changed the HT Leads, dizzy cap, dizzy cap gasket, too. The plugs had been changed by the PO, in a vein attempt to cure the running problem.

I prefer the XJ40 for looks but X300s are so well priced too. Oh yes, plenty of non expensive jags about, and x300 are now the current "cheap jag", now xj40 prices are rising. Even at short distance though fuel consumption on a V12 will not be great, but it will be fun, if you can get the traction. 10-14mpg on short runs I estimate. 18-23mpg possible on longer runs! I have a set of xjr6 wheels with 255/45/17 tyres on there. Thought it might give better traction that the the standard 225 tyres. 318bhp to put down.

Black interior is very rare on XJ40, and just so happens I have most of them, haha! This is the only XJ81 I have seen with with black interior, so I had to have it!

I flirted with the idea of a Double Six a few years ago, but didn't get one in the end. The engine transforms the XJ40, the smoothness and relentlessness of the power is a wonderful feeling. They are hugely sophisticated cars to drive. The V12 is more robust than folklore holds, but is still a daunting sight under the bonnet. The fuel consumption is pretty frightening too: Jaguar claimed 12 mpg round town - and they were probably being kind!!
I am sure I saved some photos of this car when it was for sale about five years ago. They were taken by a huge industrial greenhouse.

Nice car - and the V12 is a beast of an engine - but nice to know that the plugs have been changed as they are well hidden under all the "gubbins"!

You sure he changed the one under the a/c pump. Yes. All the plugs are shiny new NGK's. the front two are not that hard to reach on the 6.0 version. It's the 5.3 version that's trickier. The other notorious fail on 6.0 is the fuel pumps. But they both work fine currently. And through some research, I now know which Walbro fuel pumps were used inside the housing, so even if those do go, they will not be a problem to replace. The engine revs smoothly right up the range. Just need to crack on with the general resto work next.uhum more rust......

Would be nice to see it before it was too neglected! Has the resto of your 3.2 put you off ever getting another?

Well, I still have this car. It’s been garaged, so it’s not deteriorating, but there’s no a lot of progress to report. It did get a nice set of 16” Lattice wheels at least.
